t3/t4 identification

i recently purchased a turbo off a buddy.He told me it was a t3. I showed it to another buddy and he said it was a t3/t4. How do i tell what it really is.On the compressor it says garrret in big,60 a/r and m27.On the exhaust side it on says
.48 a/r. Any help would be apprerciated. Thanks.

Sounds like a t3/t04e, or it could be a 60 AR T3 (largest made). Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

does the m27 mean anything?I see most t3/t4 have m24.

Maybe this will help.The inlet on the compressor is 3 inches. Is there anything i can measure.

Here's the sure-fire way to tell if it's a straight T3 or a T3/T4 hybrid... Remove the 6 bolts and clamps that hold the compressor housing and remove it. Now measure the big diameter (exducer) of the compressor wheel. If it measures 2.36 inches then it's a T3. If it measures 2.75 or more inches in diameter then it's a t4 compressor wheel. You can then measure the small diameter of the compressor wheel and cross reference it to the specs in the Turbonetics catalog (available online). This will tell you what trim the compressor wheel is and give you an idea of what hp it is capable of. By the description you give (3" inlet), I'd say it's likely you've got a T3/T4 of some sort...

M24 = T4 compressor housing of some nature.
