Default :::Synthetic Tranny Fluid :::

i was looking to change the fluid in my transmission with something that was a little better , since i have the Hamster on my car, and i was looking at the Gm stuff and the Neo Synthetic stuff that inline four has for sale.. i was wondering what you other FI guys were using and what wieght , if you changed from stock.. i currently have no grinds in my tranny, but i have heard from numerious people that the synthetic makes the shifting smoother and extends the current life or the tranny.

just looking for some truth. thats all..

thanks in advance.

Yea i got some penzoil syncromesh and at first was dissapointed because i didn't feel any difference, but after about 100 miles the change was obvious. It was easier to get in gear and felt loose. I like the change a lot! Fully sythetic gear oil is the way to go IMO

fully synthetic is not always good for trannys cause the gears need friction and synthetic is too slick for the gears.

synthetic is fine imo as long as it is friction modified. ex: redline mtl, gm synchromesh fm.

My experience is to only use the factory honda tranny fluid its the best thing for the transmission imho. I have gone through this situation in the last month where i have a kaaz lsd and it reaquires 80W gear oil. Well all of the sudden i had a slight grind going from 2nd to 3rd found this thread here on gm synchromesh https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1190863. Make sure its the friction modified (the part number is listed in the post) if you choose to go this rought but it did get rid of the grind completely and its synthetic but if your tranny is fine just stick with factory its the best route.

GM Synchromesh Friction Modified. Part #12377916 at your local GM dealership.

I always use Redline MTL. It has the correct coef of friction yet is less viscous than mineral oil. Less viscous = less parasitic loss.

I used Mobil 1 synthetic gear lube and it was hard to get it into 1st gear with my b16 tranny... switch to OEM and never looked back

I've been using BG Syncroshift II, worked wonders on my girls failing h22 tranny. Its a lil pricey tho.
