re: Supersilver's DC2-New Build questions: new goal 677whp
Wanted to give an updated on the car as I progress to race season this year. will be attending the cmi event from street2track at sacramento raceway on 04/29/18
I made some changes... well major changes.... all new suspension setup... and more boost. now sitting at 29 lbs and just shy of 700hp. This will be where the car stays at unless I get a ppg dogbox or liberty setup (which i dont see happening due to cost.)..
I decided to go the function and form type 2 route. I also went spherical lower control arms/traction bar and Mfactory LSD..... on the dyno we maxed out the id 2200 injectors at 96% duty cycle and were able to pull 677hp with 29lbs of boost on E85. not bad, the turbo has more to go and the car wanted to give up more power. the car has overall all the way around feeling solid. we wieghed the car at 2300 lbs , and corner balanced the car within 2lbs of the front wheels. Hoping to see some good numbers at the track next sunday at CMI.
on other thoughts.... I may need to start looking for a backup trans lol. will update with track numbers and footage from the event.

I am still on the supertech forged pistons. Not sure if they are the same or different from what you stated. Should be a pic of them onn9ne of the beginning pages.

These pistons are not heavy duty. Im almost sure supertech doesnt have 2618 high expansion pistons (the classic spec CP WISECO ARIAS MANLEY etc use). Mahle pistons are 4032.
Id be very carefull on them. The good think with them is they somehow chip by chip gradually degrade at lest thats what some users report.
Right now you are the highest hp per piston i know on 4032 across all engines.
Id deffinately consider injector duty controlled(not the boost nonsence) water injection just for the knock ressistance.
Or some knock detection stand alone like this https://www.plex-tuning.com/products...knock-monitor/ or the old j&s or what ever called.
Haltech 1500 series (thats what ill get) has knock long term learning and its suppoesed to automatically readjusts at the same rpm/boost etc.
BTW your blow off sounds VERY nice. What kind it is?

Nice numbers. A spare trans is probably a good idea as 4th gear will most likely go bang first. I broke 2 x 4th gears at ~600whp campaigning the car with 24.5" slicks.
Liberty faceplating and REM processing of the gears will probably buy you some insurance at your current power level.

Re: Supersilver's DC2-New Build questions: new goal 677whp
thanks guys for the input!
I am pretty sure I have these pistons or close to these:84.00mm3mm+9.2:1-10.342.71.181" (30mm)3.433"R5.429"21mm (.827")290P4-H84-N10R
GNH-8400A/N/T
from supertech website I read up on this:
"Q: What is the difference between 4032 alloy and 2618 alloy?
A: A) 4032 High Silicon (aprox. 11% of Silicon but enhanced with additional Copper, Nickel & Magnesium) Low expansion alloy.
B) 2618 Low Silicon High Expansion alloy. Because most use the 2618 they say it is better, but that is not always like that. In fact they are pretty similar and the difference is not that big
----
Q: What is the Expansion rate of 4032 alloy:
A: 4032 expands 18% less than 2618"
so this weekend was alot of slipping the clutch out softly and spinning the tires.. SINCE i didnt have slicks yet... I was rolling in the toyo R888's at about 9psi. I was pulling constant 12.2s around 122-125mph... I found a couple problems...
1. 2step was at 2500 for street setup (i didnt have a copy of the tune and my tuner was busy with the extreme class racers)
2. I needed slicks... As soon as I hit about 7.5k in 3rd and 4th I would spin a little...
60ft was horrible, constantly 2.1 no matter what I would do. but reaction time was less than 0.4 seconds

There is no price listed on the website, you will need to call/email them to get a quote for Honda pricing. They do this to a variety of transmissions so best to call and ask.
REM polishing aka ISF https://www.racegearbox.com/rem-isf-polishing/ or https://weddleindustries.com/service...dle-industries or https://innovatorswest.com/REM-gear-polishing.html or https://www.remchem.com/industries/gearing/
^^ This basically treats the metal on the gears so that the graining becomes more uniform to allow greater shock resistance and strength.
The stock Honda gears are now 20 - 25 years old so metal fatigue is becoming a big contributor to transmission breakages (in my opinion at least).

Re: Supersilver's DC2-New Build questions: new goal 677whp
I had my entire trans micropolished and 3rd and 4th have been cryo treated which is a heat treat process to reduce residual stresses in the metal. The micropolishing I would do regardless from now on because A.) it makes shifting like butter and B.) the trans goes together sooo nice.

What kind of strength can I expect from doing this. I know the stock tranny doesnt like more than 600hp usually if you know how to preload and launch nicely.... By strengthening it, what do you think the HP limit or rating would be?

Re: Supersilver's DC2-New Build questions: new goal 677whp
My shop has had success of 900hp on these pistons . What I was told is that the clearances are tighter for the low expansion and the pistons last. Some sort of secret my engine builder has. Just thought Id share the info.
You know the "max hp on this" pseudoknowledge ,or rumor if you like , once born changes very difficult. Everybody abandoned them after some
fails so yeah they might got better design or the tunning might got a lot better or both.
My brain still refuses 200hp per piston on that metalurgy but im very sure since your tuner/builder feels safe on very high hp youre golden. He has more experience for sure anyway.
I really liked your car overall as a project and i didnt want you to blow up thats why i told you my consideration about these pistons thats all...
TELL ME THE NAME/SPRING OF YOUR BOV

Re: Supersilver's DC2-New Build questions: new goal 677whp
Look here we had a strange amound of fails with low expansion some 5-10 years ago on these pistons and all VW higher spec OEM engines have 4032 from factory. 150 hp per piston is the point were something happened or user said is enough.

Re: Supersilver's DC2-New Build questions: new goal 677whp
Updated review !
may be interested in selling the car to someone who appreciates hondas as much as I do. I am looking to learn and build another car i want to touch the RWD side of life. I really dont want to sell the car but I must move on to something that is out of my comfort zone to push myself to learn other cars.
you can contact me at : jdmdc2.510@gmail.com

Funny you wanna sell the car now, that seems to be the same route I go, I've realized over the years I enjoy the process of the build more then I enjoy owning what ever it is that I built.
