Supercharged LS ?
I need more power, considering LS vtec, that could run into $2K for a nice, powerful reliable setup..... Turbo is too finiky.... so I am thinking a JRSC (used), on a slight budget... I want power and reasonable reliability... not looking to run 13's or anything, just more power for daily driving and highway cruising/passing... any LS s/c (4dr? hehe heh) out there ? What are the ups and downs ? I like the progressive power delivery and drivability of s/c... But what should I do ? Ls Vtec, or S/C ? stocker head and block...B18b1.

I think I can run faster than a SC Ls...Not worth it. If it was a Gsr, that would be a different story.

Re: Supercharged LS ? (Arturbo)
I am not looking to run faster than Turbo GS-R's....
I just want more power and don't want to spend 4 large on a good turbo...
I've seen deals on used s/c for $1600-$1900... so I am giving them a thought... turbos are like babies... you gotta constantly watch them... I can't use that in everyday driving.... that's why I said s/c.... but thanks for the input.

What I was saying is that if you had a SC Gsr that would be a different story. But anytime you add FI to a car either it be SC or Turbo you will need to watch it. The only thing I do is change my oil. I have nothing against SC, I just have something against SC ls's.

Re: Supercharged LS ? (Arturbo)
dude,
there is no way to get reliable power from FI without babying it.
if i were you, i'd go all motor. LSVTEC. since you dont wanna spend too much and worry about things like that.
dont supercharge your LS. that would suck.

Re: Supercharged LS ? (X2BOARD)
x2board- i was in your boat too about 6 months ago.. i didnt want to spend much money so i was thinking of getting a used JRSC.. i was also considering LS/vtec.. ls/vtec was a big pain in the *** and really comlicated for what u were getting.. and its also not cheap if u do it right.. also u dont want to buy a used SC, well make sure it hasnt had a smaller(more boost) pulley.. otherwise its most likely worn out and will be far from reliable..but now its been six months and i am no longer in that boat, look in my sig and see where im at 6 months later.. yep i bit the bullet and came to realization, turbo is the only way to make real power, im gonna have to spend the $$ to get where i want even though i dont want too, and accepted the fact that im gonna need to take care of my car more then i am used too.. but hopefully it will be all worth it, ill let u know when the kis on..

Re: Supercharged LS ? (integ94)
damnit... it's all just a pipe dream then ! The word 'turbo' just keeps slapping me in the face... I know a new s/c is boku expensive and not worth the $$, but my LS is getting dissed !.... So even between LS vtec and Turbo.... turbo ? damn... those kits are expensive and I am fer sh*t sure not gonna buy a used turbo ! Looks like I am gonna need to spend some good flow to get.... good go.... heh heh Thanks for all the input thus far.... Any opinions on head packages as compared to HP per dollar on the turbos ?

Re: Supercharged LS ? (X2BOARD)
seriously x2board, its not that bad to buy a used turbo kit, make sure all the parts are in good shape and u can rebuild a turbo for less then 500$.. but i bought my kit knew.. if u were to buy a used turbo kit just make sure the exhaust manifold is not cracked, if the turbo needs a rebuild, the piping is in good shape, and u may want to buy a new FPR just so u know it works nicely.. and a new wastegate unless its already a tial..

What you do if solve other peoples problems. I bought a kit from someone that needed to sell because he blew his motor and he wanted to have it back to stock. So he sold me Rev-hard turbo kit, Greddy EGT and Boost, Greddy Profec A boost controller, Crower rods, Apex N1, custom preturbo air filter, and some other goodies all for $2,500. I spent $400 to upgrade the turbo and $300 for a new clutch and thats is. Not bad for $3,100 and 274whp.

Re: Supercharged LS ? (Arturbo)
Sounds like a fair deal, plus there is a shop in Fl called South Fla Performance that builds custom manifolds for ~$500 with a warranty against cracking, I'll look into it. As far as intercooling, I am assuming it will the the way to go immediately ? Is a non-intercooled Turbo a "no-no" ? Should I save to buy one with the kit ? This is some good info fellas... thanks !

Re: Supercharged LS ? (Strider Turbo)
I'd go for turbo - starting off with something not too powerful with low boost to save your engine. Then after that, if you suddenly feel like going all out (the turbo way), then you already have half of the parts needed to do it, so you save your money in the long run..

Re: Supercharged LS ? (Slow_ass_4dr)
I've never been a fan of NO2, it's prolly great for the 1320, but it seems like cheating to me....that whole throttle in a bottle thing is a good cheep thrill every now and then, but IMO, bottles are for babies ( no offense to NO2 lovers)
NO2 is also great to scare the sh*t outta yer passengers, but....
I want my HP to last as long as I have gas in the gas tank.... power should be at the blip of the throttle, not flip of the switch....
And yes... I have been humiliated by a juiced civic.... it was not funny at the time !
I GOT 'EM....
I GOT 'EM...

WTF ? Who lit the fire under his *** ????
