Default Super turbo charger

Ive heard of cars running both a turbo and a supercharger.Like the 1985 lancia Delta rally car.How would this type of system work?

It doesn't have any benefits over a good turbo setup. That's why you never see it anywhere except for on show cars. Besides, do you really want to understand a car from 1985? The 80's were gay. Let's just forget that whole decade ever happened.

this is my whole take on that. and i am bound to be wrong, but think about it, you take air, compress it , heat it up, cool it off, only to be heated up again from the supercharger. i dont get it.

Its basically the same as a twin sequenstial turbo setup. You use the S/C to pressureize the air, then feed it to the turbo inlet, which further compresses it. its like an overly complex pre-charger. Its an early spooling thing.

I love how H-T people weigh in with such certainty on things they know little about. Here's the real information from someone who's done it and has it working on a race car :

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1293497

I just got done re-working the diverter assembly to make it lighter, more responsive, cheaper, and more durable. It should be back on the track car on the dyno next Saturday for tuning. Look for it at SCCA SE Division Solo2 events this season.

It's an awesome setup for a lot of things, especially autocross. It's also good for road course racing. It's also a fantastic daily driver setup. You'll probably never get too many H-T props on it though, because it's not for drag racing or dyno queens. I ran low 12's with it at the drag strip with in a full-weight daily driver, just like with my small turbo setup. At autocross it ruled the world, I took the car to a couple of events before I got it put on the track car and it won both events easily. That's in a full-weight, full interior, non-track-prepped daily driver in Street Modified. At one event it was the fastest car there, regardless of class, including high end prepared race cars. At the other event it won it's class and was only slower than a couple of prepared track vehicles. The course was a bit wet that day and we were running some very old race tires that were showing cords, so I think it could have spanked them all on good rubber.

Again, if you're concerned about your 1/4 mile times or rolling-start street racing (3rd-4th gear highway pulls), then get a big turbo, dual-sequential charging will not help you.

Whaaa? That's an insult to Marty McFly and Doc Brown. All that time they put into the Flux Capacitor in '85. Light years ahead of their time.

Hell yeah! that was a good thread.See ive always wanted to do a setup like that.To me it seems ideal because like you said the supercharger spools the turbo and gives you low end torque!.

and as to all the narrowminded haters on here.Think what you want your going to anyway.Until some of the honda tech jocks tell you to think otherwise.

I don't dragrace I'm more into road racing and <eluding cops when nessasary and it's just a quick little turn down a side road>.So more low end torque would help a lot.But ever since im to poor for this type of setup.I guess I'll have to put in the maybe someday file and make do with what I have.

And I try not to turn down deadends like my buddy Camaro Joe.

ya ive only really seen them on show cars, and ive never seen any real numbers for a twin charged setup, but i did see one video of a twin charged bmw that spooled 30psi almost instantly using a large turbo
