PG wouldve killed it too...
People forget that there were 4-5 years of drag racing on that driveshaft and rear end(The axles were swapped every couple of years though)
Fatigue got the best of them...
That and a Track so sticky that when we broke and seth came up to the truck, he lost his shoe...

Found a local junkyard, they had a housing, got it, had the old rear end swapped out by 930pm. Other racers at the track were EXTREMELY helpful...
Next day, First pass, slipped the clutch off the line, but wouldn't go into 3rd or 4th...aborted pass...
Next pass, slipped it off the line, went to go for third, with a little persuasion it went in(well, a couple of seconds of persuasion) Boost came back on, hit fourth, Ran a 11.3 @ 137mph...
Oh well...need a new tranny...
9's will have to wait...
Oh yeah, case you didnt know, we swapped in a five speed before the race...no more powerglide...

lol not scary. superT will see HUGE gains with a properly setup suspension. then they can go 9s.
runnign that fast on a stock toy susp with stock leafs and two ranchos keeping the axle from rotating is scary, not knowledge

Actually, if you took the time to ask and had actually looked at the truck in person, you'd know that the suspension is not as "stock", un-engineered, scary or unknowledgeable as you assume.
First,
Stock axle mounting pads were removed, the housing was rotated to a -4 degree pinion angle(from about a positive 4 degree angle) which uses the upward rotation of the pinion to actually help plant the tires harder.
The stock 3 spring setup was replaced with stiffer rate springs and also lowered it about 2 inches., the stiffer rate aids in avoiding axle rap and "s"ing of the leaf springs.
Bushings were repalced with polyurethane in the eylets.
Shocks are competition engineering drag shocks set at 90/10 ratio in the front for rapid front end rise and subsequent weight transfer.
Traction bars are competition engineering with the snubber space set at 1/2 inch.
The truck ran 1.5's on low boost shakedown passes and will undoubtedly see 1.3 to 1.4's with some fine tuning of the shocks, pinion angle and traction bars and of course, the nearly 200 extra hp we have now that we turned up the boost
Not bad for a truck with a heavy front end weight bias...
Other then some torque steer, it tracks straight and smooth..
It went 10.5@ 133mph with a 1.5 60ft. at only 19 psi which we made 480whp on the dyno at 19psi. At 28 psi it laid down 648whp and 658 torque. So we'll see some 9's with "ease"(going nines is never truly "easy"), even with the current suspension setup...
We'll need to modify this new housing though and change the mounting pads on it and put some bracing on it...starting to find the weak points in the driveline...the parts did have about 4 years of racing on them though, so some of the failures were the new found power, traction and Fatigue all coming into one...

As some of you know, earlier in the year we ran a 10.5@132 MPH and that was on 19 psi which made 480 WHP. We're hoping for some 9s this weekend with the extra ~200 HP! We'll see those of you there who are going at the track. Don't be shy to come and introduce yourself!

I don't understand, there are full interior supras going low 9's, and you guys can't get your full racecar (truck..) to go atleast 9's?

Can't or haven't? We've only made a total of 6 passes now....
a couple at 19 psi which yielded a 10.5 @ 133mph
and a couple at 28 psi which yielded a twisted driveshaft...
Be patient we'll get there...
9's dont come easy...
Also, dont forget, we are running a completey stock 2jzgte including cams...
Those you see running low nines are not running stock 2jz's...
At route 66 we raced the Sound Peformance supra, he had a monster 88 mm turbo, built motor, cams, modified head, aftermarket intake and he even said he had a 200shot of nitrous(which he said turned off at a predetermined boost level)
He ran a 9.40 during qualifying...

Torque steer on a RWD???
with the power you have, 9s would be easy if you had a nice ladder bar or 4 link setup...but Im just always giving suggestions...its not my money to spend...
Good Luck with the truck

They ran 10.5 with 480whp.....that is pretty bad ***.... since there are a lot of cars with that power.....03 cobras & dsm's (that i have personally seen making similar power) running mid-low 11's...
They just made their 650whp and have yet to test at the track......so 9s should not be a problem at all for em........ i do not know of any 480whp supras running 9's....

Thanks for the compliments everyone!! Having positive support from others means a lot! The truck was a real croud pleaser at the track, even among the SP guys! Despite the discouraging breakage this weekend, we worked our asses off and got it running (had to go search junkyards to find a new rear end
) to make some passes. I think Dave did a great job driving the truck to 137 MPH trap speed considering he grannied it down the track, taking at least a full second between shifts. The tranny was junk and wouldnt shift...I beleive the times are respectable and show 9s in the future.
I would like to ask those of you who have nothing to say but negative comments, please don't bother to even post. There are lots of things I could say to you that are negative, but I don't. SO I'd like to ask you to do the same to do your part and try and make H-T a little more friendly. Thanks!
It was awesome meeting so many of you at the track this weekend!
And ta BIG thanks to dragsol and his family for all of their help! It was appreciated!
Awesome times too!

You bet, torque steer isn't just for FWD...it'll push RWD vehicles right into the wall...
We just want to keep it stock as possible, sure we could 4 link it, or ladder bar it or even tub it out...but we like keeping it fairly "stock"...

try plating the axle tubes at the flange end with big pieces of tubing, the flanges have traditionally been a point of failure. overall the axle is very very stout.

No problem...the word "stock" could be interpreted that way...I guess I should say stock with a few tweaks
I didn't mean to sound so grouchy, just a long weekend on the road and at the track, my apologies
When we twisted the mounting pads off the housing and pretzeled the driveshaft, it was nearly 300pm...we called the local junkyards, most of which were closed, the one import one we got ahold of actually had a housing and we asked what time the closed and they said 330pm...so me and Dave hussled *** into joliet only to hit a big festival of some sort going on, we made it just as they were closing...
Then we looked at the housing they were removing from a toyota for us, but it was the 7.5 and we needed the 8". We were bummed, then he sent us out in the yard to look at some he had lying in the bushes...no luck...then he came back up to us and showed us one last housing out under some trees, by god it was it!
Rushed back and Dave and Seth started on the housing in the truck and I started disassembling the housing we got from the junk yard...
Swapped in the good axles and 3.90's out of the broken rear end and had her in by about 930p...
A couple of guys came up and asked Dave where they could get a girlfriend like me who actually works on cars! They said their wifes didn't even want to come to the track let alone actually work on cars
Oh well..it was fun...Breaking was the best part, alot of the other teams came over and helped out in little ways...One team even brought us some cold pops!
Thanks to everyone who helped out...
Sorry we weren't able to put on a good show...damn tranny must have got the output shaft bent when the driveshaft yanked out and was banging around...Dave said it wouldn't shift into third for nothing on the first run the next day and then the second run, he said he took it real easy and coaxed it in...he was coasting at about the 1000ft mark when boost came back on and still hit 137mph...We think based on the weight, 60ft's and HP we can get around a 9.4 at 145-150...but thats just bench racing until its actually done...Were going to look for some more power too...
We only made five pulls on the dyno to get 648whp at 28psi...so were going to play with things a bit and run 3-5 psi more and get up around 700whp. The record on a completely stock 2jzgte including stock cams, intake, head, Tb etc. is like 702whp(somewhere just over 700whp)...And he was running a bigger turbo and around 38 psi boost as I recall reading over on the Supra Forums...So we think we have a legitimate chance of breaking the all stock record with a few more psi and some tuning...she was averaging about 20hp gain per psi boost...but the turbo gets pretty inefficient up that high in psi..
We may switch to a tangential style housing too...we still have the On center...
Oh well, maybe we'll make it out to another race this year
