not a substitute... they havent been proven to do anything at all... likewise they havent been proven to do anything harmful either...

Installed roughly 1/4" down from the top of the deck, around the sleeves.
They are supposed to keep the sleeves from moving about or ovaling.
Definately not a resleeving substitute.

They need to be machined in, not beat with a hammer, and cylinder walls need a hone afterward.

that is true..they are roughly 65- 85 for b series. and a little cheaper for d series, but similar in price. These are NOT a comparison for sleeving.

block gaurds help avoid cylinders "walking" where the sleeves move and oval out like pdiggitydogg mentioned at the beginning. dunt think for a minute that block gaurds can actually stop sleeves from cracking because they don't. detonation will crack stock sleeves, stock sleeves with block gaurds, and even aftermarket sleeves. ive heard of people using them and they seemed to be satisfied with them but i also hear some negative things about block gaurds. given the opportunity to use one, i chose not to. the SEARCH button helped me, a lot to read about

haha i asked him the same question a couple days ago

seriously though, i would advise against a block gaurd, for what you have to go through to install it correctly(or risk being worse off than when you started) its just not worth it. especially when its just so small of a piece of metal, the best it will do is stop the cyl from walking a little.

if you want a real alternative for sleeving on the cheap(cheaper than a blockgaurd), that works MUCH MUCH better, check out this thread. like he said devcon is teh shet. https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1444721
