Stupid black breather box on my 96, not on the 2000?? What gives?
OK, so I am getting the block ready. On the block I bought to get sleeved there is this black breather box on the block. It conntects on the bottom to a coolant passage and has two rubber hoses coming out the top. #1 in this picture.
On the 2000 block the hole is just plugged up with some metal plug.
So...how do I plug this hole up? I called Len at Baranco Acura (awesome guy, great cust. service, good prices, iloveracing on this board) and there is no part number for the plug. So, I cannot order it.
I need to either plug up the hole on the block (there are no threads) or plug up the 2 holes on top of the breather box. Any suggestions. Thanks.
P.S. Anyone know why my car doesn't have the box? Helms shows it being there for the 98+ so does the parts catalog.

yes PVC is on the valve cover.
This box is on the back of the 96 block. The 2000 block the hole that this thing would go into is plugged up. The 96 block needs to get plugged up.
I need to know how to plug up the 96. TIA.

If it does fit, will that stay in there w/o a clamp or bolt, or thread to hold it?

try to use the o-ring on the seal/plug. and you should be able to strecth the plug to enlarge the covergae area and the o-ring will do the job of sealing it...

earl, are you talking about the freeze plug like on the front of the block? The big plug with the bolt head on it? That one will not fit.
I think I could find a thin metal plug at autozone though. I am just worried about it staying in there. I don't want to loose all my coolant.

Are you sure that it goes to a coolant passage. I thought it went straight to the crankcase, and that whole box deal was part of the pcv system.

here is a picture. Thanks Chris. The gold plug to the right and down from the oil filter is what we are talking about.
Chris plugged his up when he got the Endyn catch can. Mine is plugged up stock. What gives?

Kyle's is plugged up because he is working with an LS block - which didn't come with a black box PCV system - nor does the B20. Only B18C's and I believe B16A's do in stock form.
... and before someone says something, I have since replaced the oil filter with an OEM Honda one.

The 96 block (ls) did have the box though. I am just going to do what we discussed though. Thanks Chris!

Hey Kyle,
I'm not sure if this helps or not, but although http://www.acuraautomotiveparts.net lists the black box for the LS, in my system I am not able to pick it unless it was a GSR or an ITR. Looking at the gold plug, it seems like that is only available through the purchase of an entirely new block, which is out of the question. Keep me posted on it though.

BTW Kyle, I have all my stock PCV system components laying around if you're interested.

NETNUTSHATCH: you think you can run me down how to get rid of the black box and the pcv system on a 95 GSR motor? When i do get rid of it and plug up all the holes, the PCV then comes out the valve cover?? Enlightened me with this, thanx.
