street tune?
hey guys i just boosted my ls and a shop nearby charges 300 per hour for dyno time and only 150 for a "complete" street tune, my question is will it be a reliable daily driver if i get street tuned? why is dyno so much more expensive and what exactly is a "complete" street tune
A street tune is where you drive the car on the street and dial in your air fuel values. You can't really dial in ignition timing for peak torque or maximum horsepower for that matter. An experienced tuner should know where the general ignition tables should be though. Street tuning is a bit more dangerous as well as you are driving on open roads.
The reason why a dyno tune is more expensive is because a dyno is a tool that can cost from $28k to $120k depending on the kind they have.

And dyno rental is around 100-150 an hour and i guess if the tuner is charging 100-150 an hour there is you 200-300 dollars an hour of dyno tuning.

If they are charging $300 an hour on the dyno and only $150 for a complete street tune...they probably dont have their own dyno and are renting time on someone elses for about $150/hr...is my guess.
yeah i got quoted at speedfactory 300 an hour on the dyno and 150 for a street tune.......i guess i just want to know if they have the same quality of tuning or not.....and if it will be reliable for a dd.......do they use basically the same equiptment on a street tune?
I had James at Speedfactory street tune my car and it runs great. No problems other than stuff that i caused haha. I believe that they have to rent the dyno, hence why they charge so much.
Honestly though, I'm so happy with my street tune that i didn't feel it necessary to put it on the dyno. Obviously his street tuning will hold up for a daily, i've been running my set-up since June and i honestly couldn't be more happy with it for what it is and it gets driven hard...and often.
James is a member on here - JFK78. Hope that helps
Edit: And not only that, everyone at SpeedFactory is pretty cool. It was nice being treated like a valued customer. It felt good to know that they cared about my car.

I just wanted to set this straight. WE DO NOT CHARGE $300 PER HOUR FOR DYNO TUNING.
Dyno tuning is $160/hr. Sorry if there was a misunderstanding. And yes the same equipment is used on a street tune.
Just give me a call if you have any questions.
