stock SOHC vtec + 8psi? Please read
ok guy's my home made turbo is all ago on my D16Z6 with Y8 head.
All I have for fuel management is an fmu with the 8:1 disk with the stock fuel pump.
Anyway my stock wastegate spring is set at 8psi. So in saying that I shift the motor at 7000rpm, just to be safe.
Anyway I thought at 8psi the motor would be detonating bad. All I have is a side mount DSM intercooler with the filter set up to suck in cold air from the bumber, nothing else.
She seems to push 8psi with ease, no detonation and smooth all the way till I shift. She starts fine and all that stuff also. I can't detect any detonation what so ever.
Is this for real? The boost gauge is installed with the fpr vacume so it may be off a psi or two.
Comments please

if it's not detonating or any other irregularities, you have the green light for 8 psi
wouldn't boost like crazy though witht hat much boost on a stock block

Hey thats cool. What injectors are you using? I'm putting together almost the exact same setup as you listed above. Hopefully I'll be running in a few weeks.
just so you know.. im running a 12:1 fmu, and my stock fuel pump can not give me the fuel needed at 5psi. it can do fine at 3 though. so... your stock fuel pump can handle 5 more psi then mine..? then again you are using a smaller ratio on the fmu... but i think its kind of risky.
I mean I totally agree with you. I figured with 6psi I would be pushing it at best. but man the gauge steadies at 8psi with no sign of detonation?
I've had several people in the car now and they say they cannot hear or feel detonation either. So if I'm running it then I'm running it.
Like I said 8psi, 8:1 fmu ratio, stock fuel pump and injectors.
The temp here is like 1-5 celcius lately. So with my intercooler and cold intake air filter setup my incoming air is prob. lower than the norm. But my cylinder head temp nor my engine temp rises?
I don't mean to keep going on like this but it just freaks me out that I'm able to run 8psi like this? I'm going to tap my boost gauge directly into the intake piping and see what its reading. It may only be 5 or 6 psi where now its only hooked in with the fpr.
Has anyone else gone through this?
