Default Stock sleeve question>>>>help

i have a piston and rod lsvtec with valve springs and retainers on stock sleeves...
it made 408and 306 on 4th gear pull on pump gas...and after dyno it started to misfire...it has a hairline crack in number 3 cylinder... is 400 hp to much for stock sleeves and pump gas...i have seen it on many other cars.. or do you think it was just a freak accident...what numbers do you guys see with pump gas and stock sleeves...
i found gsr block forcheap so i am putting my ls crank and what not in the gsr block... hopefully it will not crack another sleeve... if it does i will be forced to sleeve the next one

deck height is the same. gsr block with the ls crank is great, you get the gsr girdle, and dont need to do an ls vtec conversion.

as long as the car is tuned properly 400whp should not be an issue on stock sleeves.

My buddy made 594 with a t67 on stock sleeves, but then cracked 3/4 cylinder walls when the boost spiked to 34psi. People have made 600 with stock sleeves but none of these motors lasted very long at such a power level. 400 should be fine with stock sleeves.

incorrect statement.. mine made 610whp for 3 full seasons before i pulled it apart and found some hairline cracks... it depends on how conservative you tune it...

it depends on the condition of the block and what kind of abuse it has seen before

if it has ever been hydrolocked or detonated on before that will weaken the sleeve and even if you have a perfect tune the sleeves will crack at that power level.

i had a car come in about 2 months ago, the guy did new OEM pistons and rods in the block after he hydrolocked it, the sleeve split with only 240hp. for most "customers" 350 is where i stop on stock sleeves, just b/c you never know and anything over that is pushing it IMHO

Sorry, it was ment for a general statement...... Rule of thumb, anything over 600 becomes extremely volitile.

the "volitile" level is much lower than that...

I made 497 last year on a totally stock ls/vtec motor. Last race of the season I bent 4 valves. Got 4 used valves and retuned it and made 505 anything more I got valve float. But the motor is still holding together. I ran race fuel not pump though.

I think manufacturing tolerances have a good bit to do with it as well.
