i wanna boost my gsr but how reliable is it gonna be?

stock gsr w/ skunk 2 IM and itr cams
Drag turbo kit.


i wanna boost somewhere around 7 or 8 psi and make probably just 300 hp.
You guys think that would last me pretty long?

first of all you have to see if your motor is healthy enough for turbo. how many miles are one it? get a leak down test and compression test anyways. and if its turned correctly and you dont rag on it hardcore every single day it will last a good while. Ive had mine boosted at 230whp for 20k and 270whp for about 15k, still with good compression and burning no oil.

as long as the engine is healthy and you get a good tune, you shouldnt have any problems. Just keep it under 325whp (about 10-11psi on most Drag kits) and you'll be fine.

My GSR has been bosted for just over a year now, setup is in sig. If you stick around 300whp and get a good tune, no reason it can't last for a few years. This is all assuming the engine you are using is in good shape. My car has around 85K miles on it...I think 5-7K boosted.

ya i'm thinkin about pickin up the "big 16g" cause i'm gonna leave the gsr stock internals for about a year. and then build it with probably a gt35 or somethin and boost the livin **** out of it... but that's next season...

if you plan on upgrading eventually to something T3 based like the GT35r, wouldnt it make sense to get a T3 based turbo and manifold now rather than a T25 flanged manifold. Just snag a good manifold, 3" dp and exhaust and a T3/T04e 50 trim....once you want to build it, you can and upgrade from there

^ what he said. I ended up get just a small 44trim t3/t4 and 2.5inch dp, now im buying parts for my new setup ie: 3inch dp, precision sc34, precision 600hp intercooler etc for my built block. Just but things that you dont have to upgrade if you ever wanted to go bigger......cuz trust me, you will!

A stock motor would be more than suitable for your goals, reliably; provided the motor is healthy.

Ensure that the turbo setup you go for can act as a solid platform for when you decide to upgrade, i.e. a quality kit.

The last thing you want to do is skimp out now, and have to re-purchase everything later on down the road.
