14b on a GSR
Hey guys i was wondering if a 14B turbo will be good on a gsr. I know its a really small turbo thats why i wanna know if anyone has experiences with it on a gsr motor since the gsr goes to 8k stock. will the turbo make power at those rpms?
what are your goals? Yes it would run out of steam uptop but itd be very fun on the street imo.
Most people here put on turbos way too big for their car/goals. The 14b would be fun, instant spool, torquey feel, but would run out of steam uptop.

i know it would spool right up at around 2grand. me and my friends already installed 3 14b turbos on 2 ls motors and 1 singlecam. however none of those motors rev to 8 grand. basicly i want a turbo that spools quick and still makes power on the top end. Im thinking that a 16G would do the trick. wat do u guys think?

That's something I've noticed over the years. The turbos get bigger and bigger and all of a sudden the TD05 18G is a "tiny" turbo for a B series.
(In the Subaru scene, an 18G is a helluva upgrade)
Personally, I would have my reservations about the 14b on a GSR. I don't think I'd go over stock boost out of fear of blowin hot air at the top of the rev range.
If it's something you have on hand and don't mind trying it out, go for it. If you're still shopping, I'd go with a T3/T04E .50 or .57 Trim

The 14b will fall on its face revving to 8k rpms. I HATED it on my Talon. It's good for daily driving since it spools up fast, but I think you will be dissapointed with it on your gsr.
ya a 14b is kinda small when pushed to the limit you can get 300hp out of it but thats maxx boost 28-31psi. And the 6cm housing is to small for 8,000rpm even a 7cm is like a .42 A/R whitch is small by Garret standards.
my friend has a 57 trim t3t4 with a .63 exhaust on his bone stock 135k mile gsr. it spools 8-9 psi by 4k rpms.
14b is too small on a gsr. have your turbo size match your motors powerband and cams

Beleive me you dont want that turbo on gsr. It will stop making power between 5-6k. You will have very fast spool up on start(lower rpms) but you wont have use for it, since our fwd cars spin like crazy. So basicly you will suck on take off. Get something like t3/t4, much more better.
I'm running a Garrett T3/T4 57 trim .60/.63, and I hit full boost (11psi) at just under 5K in frst gear. Thats on a B16, so a turbo like mine would work out great on a GSR. From a roll though, brake boosting eliminates any lag concerns. Lag in first gear means traction.
I'm really satisfied w/ my new setup on my 99 GSR. I have an SLS shorty ramhorn, full 3" exhaust and an STC built GT3255b. The combination works very well together and spools like mad. I have full boost (10psi) by about 37-3900 rpm. The turbo is also in its efficiency range so it makes good power at that point. My last setup made 306/208 which means this one should be in the 320/230 range hopefully.
Check the classifieds because STC and SLS have a package deal right now just like the one i have on my car.

thanks for the input guys. have any of you ran your cars at the track with the turbo setup? and if so wat are your times and let me know what turbo your using.

Too broad, and too many people to try and post that on this thread. check the Drag Racing forums as well, and research these. There are literally thousands of turbo setups with various times associated with them

Drag racing is all about peak power. With the turbo you were first considering, you weren't looking for peak at all. The fastest time slip doesn't mean the best street setup.
Personally i love my setup and would probably be slower than other people. If my new setup was dialed in and i was a good driver, i could hit a low 12 w/ drag radials.

The 16g would be a better match, as it does well on the 2.0 dsm's and makes 3-350whp given the right parts. Its about the size of a t3 60trim, so you'd still have full boost by 3-3.5k.
yes like i stated in another thread similar to this...instead of like a normal t3/t4 setup...we have a SLIGHT pause before boost kicks in...its like ahh here comes the boost boom youre gone... with that small turbo its completely opposite.... its like... BOOOOST...there it went as the rpms go up..lol. Id rather have lagg down low, than fall on my face up top., haha thats meant to be kind of a joke..so dont take it to serious on how i put it..later

true to a point...my turbo spools quick (not as fast as a 14b) but i can still run in the 12s...its all about the right turbo/manifold combination
