Default Stepping the block and O-ringing

What dose it mean and what are the bennifits of o-ringing your block or stepping your block. I hear a lot of people talk about is it necessary but I'm confused what it is exactly and what good it dose.

When you step deck you leave the sleeve surface slightly higher than the outer deck of the block, its usually a small amount like .003 which aids in headgasket sealing.

Oring the block is a small groove cut around each individual sleeve which accepts small copper wire, when you torque the head down the copper wire crushes into your head gasket and helps seal everything up.

Thanks for your reply. So it helps seal the engine. At what HP Is it necessary and which is better or is both best.

i dont think its a h.p thing since h.p doesnt create cylinder pressure, but along the lines of boost pressure man

ive seen where most that run over 30psi run oring

I run GE sleeves and when I had my block sleeved I didnt do the O-ring option because I was told I didnt need it, but as time went on, I noticed I was blowing quite a few headgaskets and some members on here recommended me to get the O-rings, I sent the block back and had the O-rings machined and Im glad I did, I quit blowing headgaskets.

Nothing bad, but it can be a pain to get the o-ringing process right. It takes a few times to perfect it.
