Okay just went to the shop and picked out my pistons - Weisco 10.2:1 CR 81.5mm, should be here next week. Also picked up a GSR head from my buddy, very clean.

Going to bring it into a machine shop have it checked over and possibly port and polished

More progress, started taking apart the head for a basic inspection and get it ready to be ported and cleaned up, not that it really needs it, she's super clean!

I'm pretty meticulous when it comes to labeling things, just in case haha, more pictures for your enjoyment, let me know what you think!

I didn't know where to put the rocker shafts, I thought this was a pretty good spot

Kept the rocker arms all together

Probably a little overkill here, but I didn't want them to get knocked around or out of order, so I wrapped them up in some shop towels and labeled which is which.

Here's the bottom view for each cylinder

I think I'm going to stick with the stock cams and springs, maybe replace the valves, guides, and retainers.. what do you think?

So while I wait for payday and my tax return to get here, I decided I wanted to get some work done on my valve cover, get it ready to have the vent system put on it. Stripped the paint with Aircraft paint stripper - and I must say this stuff works wonders.

Found this to be pretty funny

Applied a generous coat of the stuff all over the valve cover

Let it sit for 30 min, came back and this stuff was already basically peeling off. So I took a hard plastic bristle brush and went to town on it, once I got most of it off I ran another coat on it, then repeated. Once I did that I got a bucket of hot soapy water and submerged it, then scrubbed the remaining bits off. And got this as a result

Took 99.9% of it off, after that I just used a small scrub brush and got the most I could off.

Before:

After:

I still want to get a dremel and polish the rest of the bits I can't reach off. I'll be grabbing some an fittings and getting them welded in soon.

I don't think it's possible to get a 2.0 from a stock bore ls. I'm not going to do the sleeves anymore, sticking with stock sleeves and doing 81.5mm bore stock length rods

More parts!! Just ordered a GSR oil pump, ACL Race main/rod bearings and thrust washers, and ARP head studs.

Picked these Skunk2 Pro series cam gears up for 80$ locally, a few scuffs but nothing serious

Just waiting on this tax return so I can get the pistons and rods. Once that's finally here I can get the block machined and start re-assembly. Getting closer!

Woops? I thought you put the bearings in and plastigauge it all to see the clearances to make sure they are right? I had no idea I had to size the bearings, the ones I bought said they're for LS motors

Update

Well I've got the GSR oil pump, bearings, and arp head studs just patiently waiting for the tax return. Next up is gsr water pump pistons and rods.

Anybody know the specs on clearances for the oil pump? I want to check it out and make sure it's going to work before I build the motor and start it.

Update, waiting for packages to come in the mail.

GSR Gates timing belt
GSR water pump
Wiseco pistons 10:2:1 81.5mm
Manley Rods
Moroso Oil pan
ARP main studs
Blox intake manifold

Once the pistons get in, I'll have the block machined. Then I will be getting the head done, I still have to pick up the hardware for the head though. Kind of undecided what I want to do with the head at this point.

Nonetheless, things are coming together quicker than I thought they would. I will post pics once I have the parts!

you get a 2.0L from a 81mm bore by getting a 95mm crank

if the crank is uncut and size from that block, you can get the bearing size by getting both. acl's are a good starting point to work off of to get the right size bearing otherwise
good learning experience or get the machine shop to measure block and crank

Just some more pictures of goodies

ARP Head//Main studs
Gates GSR timing belt
Brand new OEM GSR water pump
GSR oil pump
ACL race main/rod/race bearings

Also picked up an LS trans today

Going to tear down the transmission to check the insides out to make sure it's all good before I put it in the car, anything in specific I should look for while I'm doing that?

Longer gears from what I've read, want to get the most out of the turbo. I was going to go with a b16 but the gears are too short for what I want to run

Moroso oil pan came in today, I can see what people meant by leaking where the welds are. Going to have to put some sealer over those or something. Other than that, seems to be a pretty nice piece. I have some more questions, it says the pan holds 4 quarts without the oil filter, so my total capacity should be 4.25 quarts or so right? Also, the stock LS pick up will be okay in this pan right?

Are you running a LS head?? If so, I'm not sure, but the GSR water pump might give you issues with the timing belt. I think the GSR has a bigger gear on it with more teeth and make you have to run a GSR timing belt. I could be wrong, but you might check into it.

The larger wheel is so that it doesn't cavitate in the upper RPM's.

Good looking build so far though. Keep it up!

OK. Not familiar with the oil pump clearances, but if it's new then you should be fine. Also, I haven't dived into tranny's yet, just the motor. And the moroso pan should work fine with the stock pickup if it's made for the LS's.

Yeah it was made for the LS just wanted to make sure it would be all good. As far as the oil pump goes, it's a used oil pump that's why I was concerned. The waterpump was brand new
