Stainless return line.. Would the rubber inside melt....

Default Stainless return line.. Would the rubber inside melt....

If it touched my manifold slightly?

I know the whole point of the stainless return line is to withstand heat, but if the metal from the line is touching the manifold, would It heat the rubber inside up so much that it could melt it...

just a stupid question.... Im really not sure... I figured it could

It could, but I doubt it will, as the oil flow would help cool it. You will want to let it cool down before you turn it off, otherwise there will be no oil running through it to cool it. You could also buy stainless braid with a teflon liner, its actually cheap at mcmaster.com, and can take temps much higher than rubber-lined return lines.

i was gonna just heat wrap a small section of my manifold, but it its not an issue i wont

Think of it like this: If your bare rubber line would melt if touching the manifold, then sure the stainless gives some extra protection <U>temporarily</U>. However, what is going to happen after the stainless has been touching the manifold for so long that the stainless is the same temperature as the manifold.......the rubber will not like life.

I ran Aeroquip AQP for PCV E-vac for a few months and when I removed the line, the first 3 inches was hard, crusty, and brittle.
