Default SS welds "grey"

ok im confused, most of the welds i do turn out grey and black looking. i do know that this is usually from to much heat, but it did the same crap when i turned down the heat. and welding was to friggin slow.

is this also caused by contaminated tugnsten?

this is on a miller 180sd.

i was welding 1/2 stainless rod at like 90 amps..

what do you guys weld 1/4" stainless plate at.. and what CFM?
