Default Specific ACT clutch Questions

I have a 1993 Integra LS. My motor is currently NA but I have plans to rebuild the engine and add turbo one day. My stock clutch is nearing the end of its life and I want to replace it w/ a clutch that will work in it's current form and also w/ 300WHP.

So by researching archived threads I've narrowed the clutch for me down to the ACT heavy duty PP or the Xtreme PP w/ a street disc. My car is a daily driver and will mostly be running lower boosts levels w/ 200+WHP. But I want it to hold 300WHP on occasion.

The Xtreme PP is rated at 319lb-ft torque
The Heavy Duty PP is rated at 243lb-ft torque

Pedal pressure is not a huge concern but I don't want my left leg to go completely numb at a stop light. I will most likely never reach 319lb-ft torque but may want the assurance that my clutch could handle it.

So...

How will the pedal pressure vary between the HeavyDuty and the Xtreme PP's?
How will these PP's affect everyday driveability?

Street Disc vs. Organic Street Disc?
The Organic is about $50 more on average. How is the organic superior?

Thanks,

Leif

did you try contacting ACT? Sounds like a question they can answer.

go with the HDSS. thats the heavy duty street disc setup. it'll handle up to 243 lbs of torque which is more than enough, and its really easy on the leg.

XTSS is also easy on the leg too. its only very slightly stiffer than stock, but really its no biggie. it actually feels kinda stock to me now.

Is there a downside to XT other than a slightly stiffer pedal feel and a couple dollar higher price tag?

Also, why do you guys feel the SS is superior to the OO? Performance? Durability? Streetability?

Thanks,

Leif

XT and the HD = pedal pressure (XT is pretty damn stiff)
SS R4 R6 refer to the disc and engagement
(SS is a full face and will engage like stock) the puck styles will engage fast as and hard as hell, hard on your tranny...

R4 and R6 are definitely out of the question. I really need smooth engagement

I'm curious if anyone has experience w/ OO (standard street disc) vs. SS (organic street disc). The Organic is a bit more $ so I'm curious if is the one for me.

Thanks,

Leif

I have the Xtreme kit for a Prelude and the pedal pressure difference was TREMENDOUS when I first got it. I don't know how much difference your kit will be but mine is suppose to hold 386 ft/lbs. My pressure more than doubled from stock.

The good news is though, you won't notice it in about a month. Your legs will just get use to the feel. You'll only notice the pedal pressure difference when you drive someone else's car.

looks like 00 is just a stock disc
i'd go for SS just because it like the stock but will shift faster
(performance minded)

Maybe you should consider CM or another company.

I agree. I have the xtreme pp and it was hard when i first got it in. now it feels natural and with the street/strip disk it can be engaged like stock but if you go hard on it, it will hold strong.

I'm liking this feedback. Thanks guys.

There's a shop by my joint that stocks ACT stuff and I get a good deal there. That's why I'm slightly biased towards ACT. That and it seems to be recomended by the majority on this board w/ Exedy and clutchnet not far behind.

I'm still split between the xtreme and heavy duty. No worries, no need to decide today. I'm sure I could handle the stiffer pedal pressure of the xtreme but it may be overkill for my application. That and the best deal I could find on an Xtreme coupled w/ a organic street disc is $453 ($567 retail). Getting a little spendy but my modo is "do it right the first time!"

Thanks,

Leif

We are having a special on ACT Clutch Kits right now...drop me a line for pricing/availability. If you plan on pushing 300+whp, youre better off just getting the XT PP. Better safe than sorry, and like everyone says, you'll get used to it in no time.

We can do a bit better on that XTSS setup, BTW

If you can, try to find someone who has the extreme and see how it feels. I drove a car with the extreme pressure plate & 6-puck disc... The disc made shifting hard to do, and the pedal was pretty stiff IMO.
I have the Heavy Duty PP and Street/Strip disc and the pedal feel is perfect! BETTER than stock IMO -- stock felt TOO soft.. (99 civic si)

Now i don't think i'll be getting anywhere near 240ft-lbs of torque, so i don't need the xtreme, but think about this -- if you get the heavy duty plate and you go to the strip at high boost, you may have a little slippage, but a little slippage isn't bad and can help ease the shock to your transmission...

the plate will have little to do with the shock on the tranny
its the disc that will. thats what matters....them pucks really do engage hard as heck....and thats how you break stuff.

i have the HD pressure plate with the 4 puck clutch i love it had to replace a trans also but i still love it
i had the 6 puck before it ( i got bored and wanted to see what the 4 puck was liek) i am more happy with the 4 puck than i am with the 6 puck more harsher and direct engaugement

btw theres no doubt in my mind that my car is going to be making over 300 whp. and i did run around with both the 6 puck and 4 puck on my NA setup back in the day also with out any major problems (well upuntill i missed 3rd and blew my syncros to hell!)
