Default 4 puck or 6 puck clutch? Help me decide on a beefy clutch.

I have always been a fan of ACT clutches. I peaked out my old one that was rated at 386ft-lbs, so now it's time to get a better one. The new set-up should have around 550whp and around 450ish ftlbs of torque.

I am looking at running the ACT-HA3-XTR4 or the XTR6. It comes with the xtreme pressure plate, 4 puck or 6 puck racedisc, release bearing, & alignment tool. This clutch offers 494LBS of Torque.

This car will see the track, but not on a weekly basis. It will be street driven probably 4 days out of the week. So with that said, I should probably go for the 6 puck since it does not engage as hard as the 4 puck does. Also, do any of you run this clutch and have any feedback on it? I would love to have a tilton, but those are a little out of my price range right now.

Also, I tried searching but I'm on a 56k connection. So don't flame and tell me to search

im running the act 6 puck unsprung clutch disc with a heavy duty PP. the clutch feels like a stock clutch. i am upgradig to the act 4 puck with xtreme PP.

only thing i dnot get is why on ACT site is teh 4 puck clutch disc cheaper than the 6 puck disc.

any thoughts?? is the 4 puck better than the 6 puck? or vice versa

Precision, I was in the same boat as you. I am a huge ACT fan as I have yet to see one fail in my "posse" of friends and we all use them. I beat my XTSS to death and it held fine forever and was still good when I pulled it out. In preparation of the new build I bought the Xtreme 6 puck setup. It is a "different" clutch in that it grabs MUCH harder I think. It has a little chatter but nothing I didn't expect nor is it that bad. Mine isn't a daily driver car so I wasn't too worried.

I say go for it. Don't mess with the HD pressure plate though. It sounds as though you need the Xtreme one.

Thanks for the info

I ran the XTSS on my old set-up and I am actually going to run it on a customers prelude that is going to see a 100 shot now... but lots of boost later. The 4 puck and 6 puck are both rated at 494ftlbs, the only logical reason for the 6 puck being more is it requires more machining and material. Makes sense.

I guess I'll give the ha3-xtr6 a try unless anyone has any other interesting information to add in.....

I would recommend the 6 puck with the Xtreme pressure plate. I ran a 4-puck before in an H23vtec del sol and it was horrible. Definitely nothing like the clutchmasters 4-puck and alot harsher than the act 6-puck. I am currently running an ACT xt/6puck in my ls-t 4-door and have loved it so far. Also remember that ACT released the Maxx Extreme pressure plates as well. Kinda gives you another option

XTR6 here... daily driven. haven't put it to any harsh use but it's fine for daily driving if u know how to drive and don't mind occasional chatter, then again this is my 2nd 6 puck clutch.

I did not know about the maxx xtreme pressure plate. I'll have to call ACT on monday and find out a little more about them.

I have talked to ACT about the Maxx and they told me it can't be used on the street. That was 4 months ago, although they don't even make one for mine.

I would be curious to hear what they say.

I think you can get the max pp but if you get a 6 or 4 puck, you NEED to have a dogleg tranny.

My buddy ran the Maxx PP with the ORganic street disc in his car for some time. Made over 400whp daily driven and never had a problem

**** ACT , ACTION all the way, try flat shifting without a dual diaphram 3000lb p/plate. Its the P/plate that will let go. I run the 6 puck kevlar and its pretty nasty on the street I have a cable clutch.. But I know it will not slip.
