Spark plug gap?
Hey guys,
I have d16y8 turbo'd, 9.6:1 compression, 7lbs of boost with ngk bkr7e plugs gapped @ .030.
My car has been tuned... When my car is idleing(@ 900rpms) sometimes it starts to go down and then it dies(unless i push on the gas pedal). I'm going to adjust my plug gap to .035-.037.....i think mine gap is too tight right now.
NGK says for every 50hp should lower gap by .004.
I think this will help my car when idleing....just want to see if anyone has experienced this.
Thanks.
DAN

Re: Spark plug gap? (ginoboy1978)
That will NOT help your idle.
You need to get your tuner to fix that. Proly IAC issue. What EMS are you running?
.37 is too large of a gap with the stock ignition system and you could end up blowing out the spark.

you are contradicting yourself when you say you are going to adjust to .035 when you said NGK says to lower it. lowering the gap means lowering the number. your plugs should be gapped to .028-.032 inches
like white smoke said, your idle is bad because of something else

Not listening...
That’s why you take you car to a tuner and are not doing it yourself.
Its not going to change you idle bro. But what do I know

Re: (White Smoke)
I increased my gap to .035.......i drove it around for an 30 mins.....let it idle for 10 mins........no more problems.
My car idles like a million bucks(just like stock). Also car starts up right away after it's been driven for a while......usually would have to crank it 5 times and push down the peddle to get it going. Now i just turn the key and it starts perfectly....and idles perfectly.
I'm happy
Peace.
