Default how do I properly read the spark plug gapping tool ?

Was wondering how to properly read a spark plug gapping tool, which of the 3 points is the proper way to read gap ?

and a little side note, these plugs are NGK BKR7E's and when I put them in my boosted GSR i noticed the car did not feel quite like the stock plugs, the car was definatly running slower. so i throw in the stock plugs and the difference was very noticable, on the butt-dyno at least im thinking it has to do with maybe improper spark plug gap ? anyone else have issues with these plugs ?

sorry to jack your thread,

I was just wondering if gapping your plugs with Feeler guages would be the same as using a gapping tool.

Put the feeler guage in, press the end down, and move the feeler gauge around for slight drag.

I know most people recommend 30-32 gap but the question is on which point of the tip of the plug do you read from ? point 1,2,3 in the pic i provided ?

Well if you think about the geometry of it all... The 3rd point will hit the high spot on the gapper first (the highest value) so I would have to agree and say number 3 is the right one...

hehe i never knew either. so when they said to gap the plus to .030-.032 i just did # 1 mark @ .030 and # 3 mark @ .032. worked good for me

I kind of misread your question. For high performance apps you should really use a feeler gauge. I suppose #3 would be correct.

#3 is the way to go. #2 will not give you an accurate reading.

feeler gauge would yield the same as 3 which would be the thickest point. the number closest to the edge of the strap is the gap...looks like .036 or .037 based on the pics.
