the o-ring is basically pretty simple...just make sure, no gap in between ends, they all have to sit in the grooves..

I had O-ring on mine, and never had any problems...I even took the head off a few weeks ago and didn;t even bother to repalce the o-ring and no leaks..

technically you supposed to use new o-ring when you take the head off....I just torque it down tighter from 63 lb'ft I originally have to 70 lb/ft

here's my setup, maybe this will make it easier for you

GE sleeves, B18C1, 81.5mm, O-ringed, Stock Headgasket, no copper spray, no additives....
plain and simple and no problems...

yeah there were no gaps in mine either. You didnt use bars leak either? I am just getting kind of frustrated by this whole thing. I dont understand why a machine shop would send me something that isnt right either. You would think theyd want to avoid bad things from happening.

Earl, I meant to even out the deck, like as in 2k off, and leave the grooves and put the gasket right down on top of it.

It still seals...

I woudl never take the grooves totally out, because then, yes...pistons are coming out probably like 10-20k.

Sorry to harp here but...

If your running just water I hope to high hell it's distilled water.

if not you running SERIOUS risk of ruining your engine. the water is what does the cooling even in 50/50 mix of coolant/water.. and I know that if it don't go below freezing that it's not gunna freeze but... the PRIMARY reason for using coolant is to prevent corosion.

the copper cores in your radiator will QUICKLY deteriate and cause even more damage within the block.

If there's something I'm wrong on let me know.

I think some of you are forgetting that coolant aids in thermal conduction also. Just a FYI.

LOL looks like they never knew. To be cooled properly, a car needs a proper mix of antifreeze and water, which technically should be distilled. To prevent corrosion, antifreeze is also needed.

I would think corrosion protection would be especially important in an iron sleeved block.

thanks for the advice, i think ill just keep my custom coolant setup secret Im not too worried considering the fact ive been running straight distilled water and water wetter for as long as ive had my car. But whatever...

On another note i got the vacuum problem fixed. Once that was fixed the knocking stopped. All ive got to do now is get the damn thing to seal. Got new headgaskets today so I'll keep you guys updated.

unless you're in southern california, southern Texas or south florida, or you keep your car in a heated garage, i'd toss in some ethylene glycol (antifreeze)
