Ungars are good (this is what I have used for years)
Hakko's are also very good. If you are doing ECU's get a nice desoldering gun. The braid sucks for that IMO.

Something on the low wattage side too... You don't need anything really hot to desolder/solder a ROM... I use a Weller soldering/desoldering station which works great but they are kind of spendy unless you're doing it a lot... For mobile stuff I have BluePoint butane soldering iron but I wouldn't recommend using it on a board (too hot)... Just my $0.02

I did my ECU with a soldering gun.. giant freaking tip on the thing, but I did it somehow. Just make sure that whatever you get actually heats up. The Radio Shack pencil soldering iron I have can't even melt the roll of solder if I hold them together.

i use weller soldering station and a cheapo radioshack desoldering iron.. for $10 it works great
also.. just use the cheap radioshack iron too.. its plenty enough
