Default SOHC turbo set up help.....

I've recently had the option to take over my brothers turbo set up. I am very un-educated in SOHC turbo set ups since i was planning on doing a H turbo or B serries. So dealing with lag wasnt as big of a issue as it is now. anyways, heres the deal, my power goal is to drive the car regularly on 375-400hp. if it comes down to it 325-350 would surfice but i really want a little more than that. the car will not be daily driven but i would still like to be able to enoy daily driving the car if needed and not having to deal with tons of lag.

The big issue i'm having is what turbo to run. I've been told the t3/t04e and the gt30/3071R would be good for the application. Rigtht off the bat i'd like to go with the gt30 being that its a BB turbo, but thats the reason for the post. If anybody can help me with the charictoristics of both turbos on the listed set up i would really appriciate it.

the new manifold that will be used will be a Full Race prostreet without A/C if that helps...

specs on the motor and current turbo being ran

99 d16y8 engine race prepped from RS Machine
darton sleeves
arias 9-1 pistons
all ARP fasteners
eagle rods
step deck block
micro-polished crank w/gsr bearings
-t25 turbo
-maxrev intercooler
-maxrev log style manifold
-walbro 255 in tank pump
-venom fpr
-greddy turbo timer
-greddy oil adapter for the block
-black wrinkle coat intercooler piping
-blitz dd blow off valve
-rc injectors--750's

I really am un-educated as to what a "step deck" block is so if someone could explain that to me i would really appriciate it.

you got a pretty good start to nice setup there. go with the gt28rs. popular turbo for us D series guys. gets boost early and stays strong til redline.

i dont think that turbo will give him what he wants power wise...at least not on pump gas...

i am in the same boat except with stock sleeves

stepped deck as far as i know is where the sleeves are set just a tiny bit higher than the deck of the block thus giving you a better seal against the head. correct me if im wrong anyone

why not like a GT35R?

that will hit your goals for sure, there will be some lag, get a nice port and polish job and a built head with a cam, will help in the high rpm's with that big G35R your going to want to rev over 8k becuase if you don't your going to drop out of boost.

I'm finding it real hard to swallow that you will reach even 350hp with a little t25.

gt35r might be a little much for the street. Here is a link with a d16 making 325whp at 18psi using a gt30r... http://forums.evans-tuning.com...=3145 This should give you some ideas, but it looks like you will need a sick *** head to be able to make the kind of power you want. I dunno about 400whp though, might be pushing it on pump gas with a d-series. 350whp looks like it could be doable though with a very efficient setup.

I dont mind having do do a little headwork later on. I just wanted to get a turbo picked out that will put me at my goals after i do ge the headwork done. Very good link, its a similar set up to what i'd run.

Thats not my goal of this thread. thats the turbo that is currently being ran. This thread was created for insight into what turbo would be best for my application and goals. please read a little better

I've searched and people running a gt35r didnt hit full boost till arround 5700-6k which is far too much lag for me....

Thats for the comments guys keep them coming!

If the Gt30 is too expensive for your budget, the Evo III 16g is an alternative. I am in the process of building a 350 wheel z6 and that is what I am using.

I'm sorry i'm not familliar with that turbo. anyboyd have a link to more info on it?

I'm not sure why it has GSR bearings I did not build the motor. I'm assuming they fit or they would not be in the motor.

Why are you bumping this? Looks like all your questions have been answered. You already said you want ball bearing and that a gt35r is too big, that leaves you with a gt30r.
