Default Snapping a Rod using nitrous?!

I've been told that my friend should watch out for snapping a rod using a 75-100 shot on his D-series motor. Have you heard of anyone snapping a rod using nitrous?? We are going to build the head to take the shot, we were just wondering if we should upgrade the rods and pistons or not.

I've heard of rods snapping yes, but I haven't heard much of rods snapping due to 75- 100shots.

Well just to let you know bro, i ran a NX 75 Shot on my D-Series for a little over a year with no problems at all. All i had was a FPR and a Fuel pump.

The car went 13.9@100mph on the SOHC!!

The SOHC D series rods are known to be WEAK stock, general rule of thumb is no more than a 60 shot of nitrous and 7psi(of course depending on size of the turbo). Many have threw a rod on low shots like that but many have been succesful too. If you compared the SOHC rod to a B series you would understand why. They are extra thin on SOHC, some people will upgrade to a DOHC ZC rod I believe since they are a little stouter. Aftermarket forged is the only way to do it imo though

i had a stock d-series rod snap on a 75 shot, it started to die going up the hill so i squeezed to make it up and then pop just enough speed to coast home

yeah man, that will happen if you try & squeeze while going up a hill and in an innappropriate gear your are definately going to break stock D components. Think about the stress you put on the engine, Up hill in say 3rd or even worse 4th with your engine already starting to bog and then you hit the button.

No I don't think that upgraded valve springs are neccesary.
Stock D valves are realatively light and will hold on tight up to 8K RPMs. By the time you hit those revs your stock CAM has topped making power anyway so thre is no need for new springs unless you are putting in a cam that can take advantage of high RPMS.

i'm sorry, i meant to say-- what about upgraded valves, just so i don't have to worry about the valves burning up.

So we're basically looking at pistons, rods, and proper air/fuel tunning to a 12:1 and I should be fine?

I had a rod bearing break into 4 pieces in a D motor using a 50 shot. Never saw that happen before. Replaced the one bearing and the motor was quiet again. Luckily it didn't spin...just broke in half.

i would think there are many other things that would typically break before the rods themselves
