smoke out of the breather filter?
I recenly put an f-max kit on my 99 gsr and was running fine for about a week till a few days ago.
I raced my friend i noticed smoke coming from the breather filter off of the valve cover afterwards. I thought it may have been the head gasket because i noticed some condenstion on the oil cap and the car would sputter when I would take off.
Today I changed the head gasket and i couldn't see any damage to the gasket but it was covered in oil/coolant. Got the new one in and it idles better than it was right before we changed it and doesnt sputter any more but there is still smoke or steam coming out of the breather filter on the valve cover. It doesn't smell or feel like oil which makes me think that it's coolant, but I dont know why or how it would come from there. It is also smoking a bit from the exhaust but not a whole lot. I'm lost and just want to get my car running right. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Not to be on the negative side, but the last time i saw smoke coming out of a breather filter they blew their motor. So be on the lookout and get it checked out.

There is usually some smoke/steam that comes out the tailpipe as well. Especially if its bad.
The smoke is not coolant, it is exhaust steam (blowby). Don't drive it long like that, it essentially steam cleans the inside of the crankcase and removes oil while leaving behind corrosive junk. Not good.

but it it's just oily smoke coming out the breather, it's probably blown rings. happened to me. it's stinky.

if a compression test gives you good numbers, do a cylinder leak down test... they are far more accurate.
