Smog troubles for turbo
I have a 92 honda civic dx
with a 95 d16z6 motor
full greddy turbokit
and 2.5 inch piping
I just went in to do inspection for the car today and failed emissions for all three gases.....the car has no cat which is a problem......but...I know my tuner tuned the car to run rich..so my question is....do you think that if I put two or maybe three catylic converters on the car I might pass? I mean they are pricey but if that will pass me Ill do it...

Cats operate at a certian operating tempature, to hot they dont work, to cold they dont work.... if you had 3 cats on I would think the first one would get to hot to work and the 3rd would never heat up enough to work

Take the turbo set-up apart, put on OEM exhaust manifold/intake, put a good cat on, put in OEM injectors, put in factory ECU.
Takes a couple hours. Cake.

i dunno if the best solution is to take off the turbo? I rahter put on a extra cat...I guess Ill try it out and tell you guys how i do....wont be till another 2 months tho untill I have to try and pass inspection again

why not just:
1.) definitely put a cat on
and
2.) if you have hondata, just burn a 2nd chip that is a leaner. Take the good chip out when you are waiting in line, stick in the lean chip. I'm not saying like lean it out to 18:1A/F haha but a little leaner than normal won't hurt for a simple smog test. It's not like they are doing 5th gear pulls on the rollers (well I hope not at least)

You don't need to take of the turbo and mani.
All i did was take out the charge pipe that goes to the throttle......and put in my short ram intake i had before. ------>5 minutes
Put my stock injectors in ----> 10 mins
Put my stock ecu in ---> 2 minutes (plug and play)
There you go.......17 mins and your smog free......do it a week before so everything adjusts And if they ask what the turbo and intercooler is for.......tell them its for show....
Worked for me......passed, no problems.

No it's not.......it's doing the same thing it always does.
The only thing different is that the compressed air goes into the atmosphere, instead of your engine.

The compressor wheel can over-spin itself like that, causing damage to the turbo. Not the same thing it usually does.

Hey man, I asked my tuner if it would be okay....he said yes.
He told me to just go easy on it and drive like a grandma....which i did......for 5 days...haha.
So if you got a heavy foot.....do it xavenged7x way. Otherwise why waste your time.
