I am having trouble tuning my smc. Ran it at -47 and it started and ran fine it seemed at idle. 1,500 idle. Then I tried again. Started bogging at 200 rpm and kept dropping and wanting to stall. Pulled the plugs and they were full of fuel. So I swapped plugs and tried higher settings. All the way up to -59% its doing this and I still cant lean it. d16y7, smc500, 14b, hf manifold.

are you running your stock fuel pressure? if not, you should be.

I dont got a fuel pressure gauge. But to my knowledge fuel pressure should be stock. Any ideas anyone? Im desperate!

Set Idle to 1.5K to -35%
The rest of the rpm band to -40%
Reset the ECU.
Let the car idle for 5-10 minutes without depressing the gas pedal or activating any accessories.
This procedure will let the ECU set the STFT, short term fuel trim.

Zip, should everyone do this when they first install the SMC, or is this a special technique for this situation?

Well I did that today, and it started. Ran really really really rich. Let it idle for like 15 mins, every few mins or so rpms would drop and the car would almost cut out randomly. Finally after awhile I gave it a really lite tap of gas and it sputtered and died. Going to try it with settings higher. Zip would adjusting map voltage allow me to lean out/richen more? Or should it stay where its set? Doesnt it set how much correction it sends the Map?

you need a s/vafc hack it would lean it out and keep it at stock idle.

Yes, the SMC corrects the MAP signal, it's the same as the S/VAFC hack. You can trim the settings while the engine is at idle. Make sure that if you have the SMC500, that you also change the 500rpm intervals, since there have been individuals who have neglected to adjust it. Your fuel system should also be stock (except for larger injectors) and at stock fuel pressures. Remove the following if you have them currently installed:

a) FMU
b) missing link
c) external fuel pump
d) check valves
e) blue box

Also, clean out the spark plugs if they have been fouled and determine if the SMC LED is flashing when the motor is running.

im running dead rich at -47 idle and -46 everywhere else so rich that sometimes the car bogs and stalls. Why would it be so rich this high?

So what's the latest? Have you figured out the problem yet? Is it getting worse?

I think its because of a vac leak off of my fpr. So I am Tapping my charge lines and using them for vac sources and taking the fpr vac line back to normal.
