Default Small Turbo Problem

I have a T-28 turbo on a SOHC Civic. I am going to the track tomorrow... and tonight did a little maintenance to my vehicle. I took off the intake pipe and the pipe after the turbo before the intercooler just to look. This is what I found...

Intake pipe had a little water/dirt in it but nothing out of the ordinary.

Pipe after turbo before intercooler, I found a tiny bit of oil.

I then felt the turbo for shaft play and it had a little tiny bit.

My questions are...
What does this exactly mean?
How do I fix it?
Is there a way to adjust the turbo so it eliminates the little bit of shaft play?

Thanks for your time in advance.

shaft play is normal--- chill b

Go to the track and have a good time. Turbo bearings FLOAT on oil.

Oil shouldn't be in his charge piping, or the intercooler. If it smokes you have a bad turbo seal. Beside even new turbo seals can go if his BOV isn't working properly.

PLEASE check ur compression, sounds like one cylinders ringlands might be giving way.

Here's what happened to me ..

my compression was 180 90 190 210; (3rd cylinder ringlands were cracked), hence blow by of oil into the pipes etc.

I noticed this after a weird idle and the car felt funny. A compression test takes 10 minutes and u can buy the gauge at Autozone / Pep boys for like 10-15 bucks!

What you're decribing wouldn't cause oil in the intake.
Just out of curiousity what management are you using?

I am using Link engine managment.

The car is not smoking at all yet.

I ran a 13.62 @ 105mph w/o my slicks or my LSD tranny.

My pistons and rings are brand new no leak, but I will check anyways to see what it says.

My BOV sucks big time, I can hear it go back into the turbo before it completely opens. I hate it.

How would I replace the seals? Is it hard?

These were too unrelated symptoms...oil does not go backwards from the engine, through the intake manifold and pipes...

There is no way to fix a turbo seal without rebuilding it. Unless it is REALLY horrible, there's nothing to worry about, aside from blowing some smoke and using a little oil. If the play is really bad, more than ~3-4mm there's a chance your turbine or compressor wheel will hit the housing, but this is unlikely.

Again from the org. poster

Maybe I should make it clear what I was trying to state. Since the Greddy Kit (the one I had) relocates the stock PCV hose to the intake piping. Now, if someone has an abnormal about of blow-by due to cracked ringlands, this will cause a lot (more than usual) of oil + vapors to by displaced into the intake piping of the turbo and into the piping - pre-intercooler.

In any event, this was my situation. Its always best to do a compression test and leak down to rule out the obvious and then start to look at other things.

Good point ^^^ However, I don't have the PVC pipe going to the intake. I just plugged the hole and put a breather on the Valve Cover. That is a good thought though I would have never thought of that.

Thanks again.
