Default Sleeve Scratches?

Ok so im in the middle of an engine rebuild and I have just gotten the sleeves honed out (stock b18b block with stock sleeves) and I noticed that there are some mild scratches in each cilynder. I was wondering what I should do about it. I dont want to put the engine back together and crack a sleeve or anything so im wondering what do. Should I get it bored, re-sleeved, or should I just forget about it? The scratches are big enough to catch your fingernail but they are not splits.....yet anyway. Im running an ls/vtec with 8psi of boost. I dont "Want" to spend the money on sleeving with darton sleeves or anything but I refuse to run an unreliable engine. What should I do?

Hmm I wouldn't run the block like that. try to go to 81.5mm.

Would boring stock sleeves make the sleeves too thin? Could'nt they crack anyway?

They could. Resleeving is the best idea. But at 8psi you will be fine with 81.5mm with decent tuning.

.......Ok so this is obviosly a dumbass question but. What is the stock bore on a B18B? And I have already dished out a pile of money in tuning would it really be nessesary to do again if I go with 81.5mm?

we run 20 psi and 447 daily on stock sleeves at 81mm. 81.5mm isnt gonna make much of a difference. now 82-84mm, especailly 84mm and that **** can be kissed goodbye. im building an 81.5mm ls vtec turbo, 20psi should be my friend just as well. of course ill run 12-13psi everyday.

WTF? 20psi on stock sleeves, What kind of pistons and rods do you use? How long have you been running your engine like that? Wow. My freind blew his sleeves at 15psi? whats on the go? I still dont know what to do about my engine though. I mean, would the scratches turn into cracks?

I've seen 30psi on stock sleeves... it's all tuning. Not stock bottom end, of course.

Bigger bore -> bigger pistons

Yes you need 81.5mm pistons to run 81.5 mm bore.

honda/acura make oversized stock pistons correct? if so, is the only difference between stock and aftermarket oversized pistons going to be forged and one not?

yep you can get OE pistons in 81.5mm.

Aftermarket pistons are (usually) forged and can be had in different compression ratios. They also usually have floating wrist-pins as opposed to press-in wrist pins on the OE rod/piston setup.

it's a lot easier to swap/install pistons w/ a floating wrist pin. You don't need a machine shop to press the wrist pins out... you can just remove/install the clips yourself.

its been over a year, the rings are starting to go, but he really gives it hell every single day at full boost. its tuned really well with hondata. mine will be uberdata. a lot of people on here sleeve their stuff for 300whp, what a waste.

FWIW OEM pistons only come in 81.25, aftermarkets come in 81.5mm and a plethora of other sizes.
