Do a compression test, both wet and dry. If the numbers on the wet are significantly higher, then your rings or ringlands are mostly shot.

Excatly. But it does sound like your ringlands are going out. So to the dry/wet test to confirm.

When my rings gave out, i just noticed my car was leaking oil like crazy and my exhaust was spewing oil out. No real hesitation though.. i knew it was my rings for sure when i did my compression test.

It sounds like the complete opposite to me.If the car isnt smoking or consuming oil than ur problem is something else.

Do the tests and go from there, but if it checks out then i would say its ur ignition, wether it be mechanical or ur tune i have no idea.

it doesnt smoke out the downpipe. or leak any oil. smoke is coming from my intake manifold area not my exaust

my car sounded like a Subaru at idle and part throttle.

i actually kind of liked the sound. the smoke wasn't any fun though.

how is your pcv system set up?
hopefully your setup doesn't inhale the blow by/and or pressurize the crankcase. If you have it set up so you can see the blow by (ie, filter on valve cover, filter on catch can, etc), you'll see a big cloud of **** coming out under boost. If it does that, you don't need any more tests, you know..

I Have A Breather On The Valve Cover, How Are You Supposed To Tell If A Cloud Of **** Comes Out The Breather Underboost? If Rings Are Bad Does It Smoke Out The Exhaust? The Only Place It Smokes Is Buy My Intake Mani Area

im doing a compression test tonight after work. what else would cause the car to smoke by the intake manifold ? could it be injector related like throwing to much fuel in?

j/w what you guys mean by "wet/dry" compression test.
do you do the dry first, then pour a capful of oil down the spark plug hole for wet??

^Would also like to know.

Typically how long does it take for ringlands to go if you're daily driving (no hard boosting)?

is it smoking out of the valvecover breather near the intake mani? Thats a sure sign you have some issues with ringlands.

IT DOESNT SMOKE OUT OF THE BREATHER. IT SOUNDS MORE LIKE A LEAK THAN A MISFIRE AND IT LOOKS LIKE ITS COMING FROM YOUR INTAKE MANIFOLD.

try turning off your caps lock, that seems to fix my problems.

just do a compression test, could also be a valve issue, esp since you say the smoke is coming from your intake mani.

no ****. This is thread is dumb. Smoke coming from the IM?? Check your breather box. You shouldn't be pressurizing the crankcase under boost, if you are, figure out why and change it.
