Should I break the engine in first?
I am biulding a Ls/Vtec turbo setup right now. I would like to just put it all together at once and drop it in, but then I thought about the break in. Would the turbo put to much stress on the engine during the breakin period? Should I just drop the engine in, run it for a month or two and then put the turbo on?
My setup:
-head: B16a3, ported and polished, full ferrea valvetrain, not sure of the cams yet(any input on the cams), victorx intake manifold, full race cam gears
-block: B18a1, arias 9:1 piston, crower rods, acl bearings, apr studs, ITR oil pump, GSR water pump
-Turbo: fullrace stage 3 gt kit ( it has the garret GT35R turbo)
-ecu: p28 with Hondata s300
-fuel system: walbro 255 pump, 750cc persicion injectors, aem fuel rail, aem fuel pressure regulator

...put it all together and tune it right away! on first start up, let the motor run a few minutes, then drain the oil. run motor for a little, then drain again and change the filter. if the motor was built right, no break in is needed.
driving the car car un-tuned is what will hurt the motor, not the turbo.
CTR cams are nice for boost. gl with the car.

I know it been established already that tuning is first thing to do..
but the information on the link is really helpful to know..

I have put together alot of motors, and tried all different types of break in methods. The best one that works for me is get it tuned, then drive it like a regular vehicle. Stay away from excessive idling though.... If its together right, it will be fine.
I agree with the oil changes.. Once at 100 miles, next one at 300 and then your set...
What you will notice also is the first 1000 miles, that motor will start to feel progressively stronger as you drive. I believe that's the rings smoothing everything down and the compressor raising as they are sealing better. I noticed that in the motors i built and alot of brand new cars that i took on cross country trips.. Car feels completely different by the time we get home. ahaha.. Love working for a dealership.
