Default Shot peened stock Rods, worth it?

Well I have my motor apart again awaiting a +.20 overbore and new pistons. Since I have it apart I'm considering getting the rods shot peened. I can have it professionally done for free. Is it worth my time and effort to drop them off at the shop? These are stock Type R Rods BTW, will be boosting around 15-16psi, fully tuned on Hondata.
Thanks for any info.

I am upgrading the pistons, and have the opportunity to shot peen the rods for free so I'm assuming thats a small upgrade. I just blew over $400 on a set of Arias piston that I fried, now I'm dropping another $400+ on another set so I have $0 remaining for rods.
Thanks.

shot peening is good if you are getting it for free but i dont think the stock rods are gonna like 15-16psi

I say have a garage sale, go donate some plasma, sperm, whatever it takes, but i would take advantage of the motor being apart. Think abotu the time and effort that will be put in if the rods snap and then your back in same situation costing you more $ and time. I say upgrade the rods

geoff from full race used to boost around 18psi on a ls bottom end. je pistons on stock rods. he upgraded the rod bolts to a set of arp's. tuned with pms. i think he told me his car went 11.3@128.

increases their tensile strength by putting residual forces on the surface of the rod.

I say if it's for free, then do it. But I've also heard that shot peening can hide stress cracks, imperfections, and things of that nature in the metal. Definitely upgrade the rod bolts with ARP's

>
> the manifold came from my buddy. I dont know if you know JD or nino from
> axz but i am cool with them. The manifold cost me 600. it went 11.3 @128
> with 18 psi. Je pistons stock rods arp rod bolts, LS-vtec. the new setup
> has a worked gsr head crower rods custom sheet metal intake manifold and
> radius arm suspension. Those pics are over 2 years old. many changes
since

My understanding is that most manufacturers shot peen their rods anyways. It doesn't increase their tensile strength, it makes them more resistant to fatigue.

From talking to engine builders, the only time you should think about shot peening is if you deburred your rods or did something else that would relieve the residual stresses put in by the factory shot peening.
