My buddy is looking for a turbo for his ls.. so I was browsing around on here, and found a turbo from a GST for 75$. The guy says it has less than 1mm of shaft play. Is this something to cause major concern? How hard is it to correct the shaft? Is it expensive?

need to send it in to a shop, and have them rebuild it, and rebalance the turbo, usual charge for rebuilds around anywhere from 150+, not worth it if u ask me

 

so 1mm of horzintal shaft play isnt allowable?

 

im really not sure if its that bad, but it could get worse with time, im u cant be 75 bucks, give it a shot

 

isnt a lil shaft play normal ...up and down?

 

this is horizontal.. the guy said it had no vertical play

 

i thought vertical was ok...and side to side was bad?

75 is a lot i find them for 30 bucks all the time

I bought 2 complete turbo setups (oem) off of totaled DSM's in the local yard here for only $20 apiece.

I think the original poster can do much better, maybe even just buying a brand new one since they aren't too expensive really.
