Shaft play? how can you tell?

OK, so ...(seriously...i have a turbo and never understood what it was, i got it cheap) shaft play is when the blade can move up and down...not the 'play'p when spinning it back and forth.....so....what if i put a turbo with shaft play on a car...not to race...just to give it some more power...nothing major...6-7-8 max psi. i know shaft play causes the turbo to blow up...but....how do you know when you could still reuse one or not?

If the shaft is rubbing or wearing away the intake housing, is when you don't want to use it. It will start to ship off parts of the housing and send them through your motor, thats always a lot of fun. Other than that, just make sure you turbo isn't close to hitting the housing, because that is the worst part. You should have some shaft play, but not crazy wiggle room.
