Default Searching for the best turbo (D Series Question)

I got a 90 Civic HB with a SOHC ZC in it. I'm trying to find out which turbo to slap on her.

My goal is 10psi with some mild fuel management bolt ons, injectors and pump at the most. I wanna see if I can get 175whp out of my beater. Since it's a small engine with not so much displacement and power band, the size and spool time are critical for me. If anyone has alot of info on this kind of setup, I'd gladly like to know. I've searched and found the T-25 is a popular D series turbo, but alot of guys only run 6psi, I want more!

a t25 will get you to 175whp easily at around 10psi. The poeple running 6 psi on their t-25s are most likely from greddy kits which have a wastegate sring of 5.5-6 psi. I would just get a t3/t04e 57 trim it'll get you there no problem but you wont have the best powerband

I'm looking for a solid powerband where I have consistant gains from 4000-7000rpms.

I'm sorta new to boost, what exactly does a wastegate do and can they be swapped. I tought boost was controlled by the BOV or a boost controller? Can you inform me please?

the wastegate is what actually controlls boost. It bypass the turbine on the turbo no t allowing it to spin as fast thus lowering the boost pressure. A BOV just vents the charge pipes once the throttle plate has closed to prevent compressor surge (which still under debate wether it does anything bad to the turbo). A boost controller actually connects to the wastegate via vacuum lines and makes the valve in the wastegate open later thus making more boost. But a boost controller cant lower boost below the wastegate spring boost amount.

Ah. Well What is the stock spring rate for a T-25? I don't wanna run 6psi which I beleive is what it is set for.

Except the Greddy kit doesn't use a T25.

Thats going to depend on the application it was designed for. If you want to run more boost, either adjust the wastegate arm or get a boost controller. Its that simple.
