Apexi.

I think anyones well built turbo setup at least deserves a filter.

Thats true. I think if you spend a couple of grand building a kit, an extra 75 bucks for a filter is cheap insurace for longevity(sp).

I have no room for a filter on my turbo, screen is pretty much the only choice. Is there any k&n filter material you can get that maybe i can put inbetween 2 pieces of screen?

25K+ miles with screen and no problems.

btw, my screen recently broke. does anyone know where i can get one?

Home Depot only sells the screen in 10yard lengths or in large quantities.

I don't know about K&N material but Edelbrock makes some filter element that you can buy... I think it's like $10... it's basically a big square of foam filter element...

I was going to sandwich some between some screen on my set up but ended up finding a small enough filter instead...

If I didn't have enough room for a filter I would at least use some of the foam Edelbrock stuff, at least that way you are filtering out the dust too...

it's already been proven through tests that the best filterin device was the Apexi. I believe K&N came seocnd. HKS was thw worst, I think Blitz style awas not far from HKS.

that would be soooo restrictive. The screen itself already occupies some air space, combine that with a filter, try breathing through a straw and see how long you stay concious

Anyone know if those UNI filters flow good? They must if they go on 12,000 rpm bikes right?

I remember reading this as well. The Apex flowed the best, and kept out the most dirt. And like you said, those foamy filters don't work for ****.

I started off having just a screen (it was the gray metal wire screen from home depot) because I couldnt get a filter straight on the turbo, and I didn't have a pipe to extend it. That worked for like 8 months with no problems. When I got a new manifold I got a little straight pipe to go out to a filter. I was going to get a K&N but it was $70, so I got a cheap $30 one from Autozone or somewhere. I could definitely tell it was slower spooling up with the filter, so I switched back to the screen. It is my daily driver too, so I would reccomend the screen, you can even double up with the screen if you think the holes are still to big.

After making some modifications to my setup, I couldnt fit the intake arm on due to the stock fan moving a bit, so I just slapped a screen on and drove around on it. One day, I hammered it and went "this feels like absolute ****". Top end was hurtin, it just wasnt pulling hard. I made a few pulls throughout the day, it felt awful.

I figured Id see if the screen had anything to do with it. Went out, got a slimfan, hooked the intake back up, went for a drive and whaaaaaaam back in action. This isnt butt dyno 3whp, this was night and day.

The only benefit to the screen was that SOB spooled LOUD!

Listen to tony1... That screen is not as open as you think. The flow does not like the aluminum mesh at all. The "effective" flow area is only around 60% of the "actual" open area of the screen.

I think blitz was one of the best too. It didn't filter much, but it had pretty much the best airflow.

Also, if i had room for a filter i'd be running one. I gotta figure something out b/c my mesh is starting to worry me.

My friends turboed gsr(sc35) last about 30Hp to a filter. The difference between a filter and a screen was like night and day. I can see were running a filter would be better for realiability though.

So true, I made a run on the dyno with out my filter and made 25 more hp. I have a Big K&N too. I was pissed but still run it because i think it is safer.

I have yet to see a car pick up significant hp with no filter as opposed to a PROPERLY SIZED air filter in good condition. Even at 400-500hp, a normal sized K&N shoudn't be a restriction.
