Scared the hell out of myself in an engine build
I built my first all out F22C (2004 S2000 engine)
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1169077 (pix here)
I got that dreaded call at midnight saying "hey the motor you built only has 5 lbs of oil pressure." I didn't have a clue where or what the problem was. I was up all night reading manuals and trying to figure where I screwed up. I was sick. This afternoon I get a call from the guys who did the install saying "oh, by the way, there is a remote mouted oil filter kit and we hooked the lines to it backwards. It now has 82lbs of pressure" Whew!
Has anyone ever made this mistake or even seen this happen before?

Dang, I feel you man. This is completely different on less expensive toys.. but people burning wrong chips for their ecus, and then calling me and asking why it is bad...
Glad it was a dumb mistake though.
BTW... very nice build up, wouldn't expect anything less.

I didn't think it was possible to hook up a remote filter backwards?? I mean yeah sure it's got an inlet and an outlet but all it does in the end is still just run oil through a filter. there's not some sort of magical one-way valve in an oil filter that I dont know about is there?

Oil filters have a backflow preventer, or check valve flapper built into them to prevent unfiltered oil from draining back into then engine at shutdown.

hmmm learn something new each day
where's it located at? I've cut a few filters open in the past to diagnose bearings and such and all I've ever seen was the filter paper? maybe its subtle enough that I just wasnt observant enough, wouldnt be the first time haha

Damn, I know that sick feeling you have. Something simlar happened to me. You learn something new everyday. Is the engine fine since it ran low oil pressure?
Oh yea I got my rods yesterday earl...Thanxs again

Shown as the anti-drainback valve here.

The installer told me the problem was with the remote unit itself being backwards but I guess it could be in combination with the filter also. Interesting information. I'm just glad they got the 5 lbs of pressure and I hope nothing got messed in the start-up. It gives me a good excuse if the engine goes bad
My customer just ordered a second engine, in all motor, with a 90 mm bore. That would give it 2308cc's.

I would of crapped my pants if I were to have got that phone call. Glad everything turn out right.
