Default is it safe to break in an engine on an old tune?

i searched and read the faq's about engine break in.
this faq was very helpful https://honda-tech.com/zero...age=1

i plan on getting my newly re-built motor tuned right away and possibly towing it there.

i was wondering if it would be possible to drive it there on my old tune. im just afraid of washing my rings because my old tune was kinda rich at idle. the only thing ive changes was the pistons(81mm 8.8:1 compression, to 84mm 9.7:1). the motor had no damage i just wanted larger piston and higher compression. but will this cause the motor to run leaner? making it unsafe to drive 200+ miles to my

well how much of a diffrence will the change in piston size (84mm 9.7:1 vs 81mm 8.8:1) make in the fuel maps? will it be safe to at least start the car, i want to make sure it runs decently before i bring it to the tuner.

as long as your air/fuel ratio is within reason it would probably be fine.

to rich is no good and to lean is no good......so get a wideband o2 sensor and monitor whats going on.....if its out of wack then you need a tune asap.

well i only plan on driving the car to the tuner, thats like 200mi, accrost connecticut to new york. iv heard too diffrent stories, that you shouldnt drive at all w/o tune, and thats its better to drive before tune because it helps break in the motor.

and i paln on getting a wideband, i was wonder what a good brand would be, im considering innovative, the one that has a gauge.
my other question about widebands; is it ok to always leav it in and hooked up?

IMO i would run a stock ecu, stock injectors, and at least run it like that NOT in boost, to check for leaks, random noises, smoking etc...
i would prolly drive it around the block making sure everything looks fine, then bring it back to your place

yea this is what im gonna do to break in my motor in a month or 2; run it totally off stock management for a while, probably take out my wastegate spring too so i dont accidentally make boost.

i was planning on installing it with turbo on and everything that goes with it, i think this will give me a chance to cheak for leaks with everything including all oil and colant lines for th turbo, i will probly just un hook the charge pipe.

the engine builder also stressed changine the oil after 1/2 hour, 100mi, and 500mi,
why is this so importaint? he said it had something to do with the assembly lube

Don't do that....you'll over spin the turbo. Take the wastegate spring out if anything.

I broke my motor in on a basemap and drove it about 500 miles, then changed my oil, then tuned and that was the end of it. 10K later the motor still runs like butter.
