As a side note, I did a d16z6 for a friend a year ago as his daily driver, stock rebuilt bottom end, and we ran it at 11psi from a Jackson racing superchager (non intercooled). Being non intercooled is quite hard on things, but he stomps on it daily, and it hasnt had a single issue yet. Its decently tuned, and has the appropriate fuel mods ( injectors, pump, ecu chipped), so I'd say do 10-11 psi intercooled and you'.ll be ok. Ive tuned a couple of d16a6's running between 10-13psi on the stock bottom end too. Both had mucho miles on them before getting boosted. They were fine too.

man new threads every day and everyone keeps saying the same thing
PSI MEANS NOTHING!!! you can't say "oh ya your motor is good for 10 psi" cuz i promise you if you bolted a gt35r onto a stock single cam and ran 10lbs you would scatter your rods all over the road.
Every turbo is different and flows differently 10psi on my borg warner s372 will make over 400hp on a built motor as a dsm turbo on 10psi will make bout 150hp
DO RESEARCH BEFORE ASKING THE SAME DAMN QUESTION OVER AND OVER AND OVER!

that is all

AMEN...[/thread]

To the OP...State what SIZE (or trim) t3/t04 turbo you have for your car. That will tell alot, as psi will render itself rather irrelevant because different size turbos make different power at the same pressure level. Psi is just the level of pressure thats measured at the intake manifold & MAP sensor.

Alot of general "rules of thumb" are set here on H-T, and the one that seems suitable for your engine (thru experience of course), is a 200 to 225 whp "safe" limit. Always set a power goal for yourself, not a psi goal, and if you are comfortable with taking your D15 to that power level, discuss it with your tuner, and he will use whatever psi your setup will give him to make that power goal. Good luck.

The driveline loss will depend on what dyno you're gonna be tuning on. Dynapacks measure bhp. Chassis dynos measure whp (ie: Dynojets, Mustangs, etc.). Also take into consideration weather and temperature conditions. Will the car be tuned on a dynapack?

As far as psi in your case, Im gonna say yes, because Im assuming you have the properly sized t3/t04 for your engine and power level. THAT is the key to a good setup and tune. In cases when the properly sized turbo is not chosen (for ex: a small turbo going out WAY of its efficiency range), it may not be able to sustain enough pressure at the intake manifold to make a particular tagreted power goal, then the turbo will push out an extremely high temp air charge which can lead to high EGT's, high cylinder pressures and detonation.

Others may chime in that can explain it a little better than I can, but you get he idea.

I answered his question, he asked is 10 psi pushing it?

My answered was get a good tune.
