Running without a downpipe - what will it do?
If my car runs OK once I get the turbo on tonight or tomorrow, I will have to run my car without a downpipe for a day or two until I get one made at a good shop I know of. Aside from it being horrible for the enivronment (Yes, I know, but I can do nothing about it), can anything bad happen by running with it off? I'm going to "heat shield" the area that the exhaust gas will be hitting.
I had my exhaust running right off the headers one day (while I was working on my exhaust system)...louder than ****. probably get pulled over in about 2 minutes
i have been thinking about this also. i have always been told not to run a car without an exhaust manifold because you can "burn a valve" from the rapid heating and cooling that can take place. i thought that it might be possible to damage the turbine wheel from running without the downpipe. I don't know for sure though
If you run without a downpipe, your O2 sensor will not read correctly and your car iwll idle VERY SHITTY and your car may bog.

oh yeah duh.... my downpipe was lose.... hanging by two bolts and one nut. anyway my idle was hella whack.... it revved up and almost stalled a gazillion times...
yep, you'll throw a CEL since O2 sensor can not read anything...therefore running it rich and bad idle...
for temporary is okay, don;t boost and drive slowly...

I dunno, all i did was run open downpipe and thats fricken awesome. my car spooled like an 18 wheeler. I miss that now that I have an exhaust on.
my o2 sensor is connected to the downpipe. i ran open downpipe and it was loud as fluck.
