Default RT4wd Wagon: Build Choice?

Ok, here's the short an sweet. I've got a RT4wd wagon that I'm going to build and boost to around 400awhp (the drivetrain can handle it, youtube epic tuning). I'm stuck on 3 different options, money and drivability being main factors. I have a built b18c at 413whp with an sc61 in a 90 hatch and I hate the lag. I want some more predictable pull instead of a 5k-redline powerband. I'm not on a tight budget but I want to break away with spending the least amount possible so:

1. D16z6: sleeved, built, high revs, big turbo - cheap, light, but laggy
2. H2D F22: stock sleeves, pistons, rods, head, med size turbo - decently cheap, torquey, fab needed
3. H2D H22: stock motor, med size turbo - not too cheap, torquey, fab needed

What do you think would be best bang for my buck?

you dont need sleeves for a 400whp single you can even break 400 on a stock head cam and intake manifold

D16z6, custom 10:1 cr pistons, rods, cam, port, small gt28 and shoot for 350hp; reasonable power and quick spool. Matt broke his tranny w/o a turbo on. https://honda-tech.com/zerothread/2060180 It may hold if you drive like a split tail like the people in that video, the point of having awd and a high power is to actually get a decent launch. Shoot for a reasonable power level and rally the crap out of the hideous car.

Use the F22 and make it interesting. And, lag sucks!

K, so far the z6 is winning by a lot. Anymore opinions?

the f22a1 head rules... and stock engines can make power...

but to give yourself any kind of room, you need to HACK the frame.. as evidenced by my build..

the d16 would be easy, cheaper, and used parts are everywhere.

i'd do a nicely sized turbo setup on the d16. too much torque isnt going to help drivetrain reliability... the D would help it last a lot longer i think

yeah, i think you can run mighty fast with either, but the D wont kill trannies nearly as fast..

the f, with a decently sized turbo , will KILLLLLLLL d trannies. i cant believe the torque my car puts out at its low (12 psi) boost level.. its got so much low-end...

its not doing my trans any favors right now. good thing the 2wd D trannies are cheap, but the RT4WD D trannies ARENT.

PICS YO!

i miss my turbo D though. so simple

D-series for sure! Cheap and readily available, I'm maybe 5000 into my build and making 400+ WHP!

Very good point. However, is it realistic to make 300+ WHP without being laggy on a D series engine.

Ok then, d16z6 it is.

Now, how many of you would prefer a more responsive setup with less power, or a laggier setup with more power?

Ok, so here's what I'm thinking:

DOHC ZC Motor
Bisi Turbo Cams w/valve train
eagle rods/ vitara pistons
mini ram turbo mani
EVO 9 TME Turbo

Make for a crazy responsive setup and good for about 370hp.

The evo9 turbo benifits most from the divided housing. I'm guessing you're planning on getting it mainly since its cheap.

You could also get away with a bigger cam if you used a VTEC head with a Bisimoto cam, and you could get some port or valve work with the money saved (2x regrinds = 2x the price, obviously). The only reason I'd stick to a ZC is because it comes with equal axles, but I somehow doubt that the ZC halfshaft bolts to the same spot as the 4wd halfshaft.

K so you think I should stick with a SOHC vtec head instead.

The Evo 9 TME turbo is my choice because it's cheap, since I work here at turbochargers.com I get it at cost which is retardedly cheap and it's good for like 400hp and it'll spool faster than any other turbo capable of making that power. We'll see how that turns out.
