Rod install question
When using a stretch gauge, is it necessary to tighten to length multiple times? I've read from arp's site and it only mentions cycling the bolts when using a torque wrench. It does not say anything about cycling with the stretch measuring method.
Also after the bolt is loosened from stretch spec, should it return to its default length out of the box? I am guessing that as long as the bolt isn't over stretched, you can use/reuse the bolts until "there is a permanent increase of .001˝ in length".

Most tough steels will have memory, but still be ductile (stretchable). Most ARP's for instance can be reused as long as you don't pass their yeild strength, the point where they stretch enough to destroy that memory. Technically you're starting to pull the steel's grain structure apart at the yeild stregth.
I'm not quite sure, but I think you should go off of it's current 'used' length, assuming it hasn't been overtorqued/stretched in the past.
