Default RIP (lower case to make filter happy)

My engine. Stock b18c1 pushed hard for four years.

Nothing dramatic, but it's smoking oil big time.

Timeline:

11/11/2 - HPDE at Lime Rock (I think this was the final nail in the coffin).

1/29/3 - Crashed my beater. GSR pressed into daily driver service

1/30/03 to 2/4/3 - GSR drove OK, but J&S Safeguard picked up lots of detonation above 4000rpm in vacuum. Shrugged it off as an electrical/timing problem. Drove it very tamely.

2/8/3 - Tried to drive it to the carwash to park in garage for the rest of winter. Within one mile see and smell oil burning. Turn around and park it.

So that's it. No oil dripping, so it's at least a ring job. This engine gave me an awesome four years of serious abuse. Salut and RIP!

I'll check compression tomorrow. Tonight I'm just hangin' with my woman.

Peace.

Thanks Arturbo. If my engine is truly dead then I will be selling all aftermarket goodies and returning to stock with another engine.

But... I just did a compression test this morning:

1 = 210, 2 = 210, 3 = 210, 4 = 200

Plugs 2 and 3 were noticeably oily.

Huh?!? Valve stem seals?

Any thoughts?

probably rings. its still possible to have good compression with shitty oil control and scraper rings.

Damn! Sorry to hear Greg! Youve always been extremely helpful with everyone's JRSC installs and tweaking the SOB's. I hope you decide to keep everything on there and keep playing with it!

Good luck man!

Another guy I know just told me that his JRSC GSR started smoking due to the valve stem seal. Plus, he drove his like I drove mine (track, autocross, heavy abuse at timed events).

The spark plugs showed no sign of detonation, and I have had a Safeguard installed for the last two years, so I'm going to cross my fingers and hope for good rings and bad valve stem seals.

If they were loose, that could explain the "detonation" the safeguard picked up over 4200rpm (in vacuum even).

If this is the case, I'll be back boostin' 10psi in no time!
