Default Ringlands on FI Prelude motors?

I posted this on preludeonline too, but I figured I would get more resposes on here.

I'm curious why the turbo'd and supercharged prelude motors are blowing due to ring lands. Is it because of detonation, or because of the high combustion pressure on the pistons?

Trying to figure out the root cause so I know how to proceed with my turbo install. Thanks.

From what ive read it seems to be just from the ringlands being too weak and the slightest bit of extra load on them and they blow. If your planning on boosting, redo the internals and you should be fine.

Over an extended amount of time if you run high enough boost(HP) your ringlands will fail...or if you detonate even on low PSI (HP) you'll bust your lands.

If you plan on bosting on stock internals I would say no higher than 7-8 PSI for 6-12 months but you should still look to upgrade you internals.

It is the pressure of being FI that blows the ringlands. Even for those without detonation, you still will eventually blow the ringlands.

well we know that they are weak, the question is what makes the weak ringlands actually fail.

From what i hear, its just too much load, it can happen with too much compression on all motor, too much boost on turbo, too much nitrous, etc. Even on a stock motor if you run it way too hard you will blow the ringlands.
