rev limiter on LS-T???
Hey guys got a question? what does everybody have there limiter on a ls-turbo? I have a built engine, pistons, rods, full valve train cams, cam gears etc...and when i got it tuned, my tuner put the rev limiter on 7400? I know he did it just to be on the safe side, but don't you guys think i can go more with a built motor? Im just curious on your guys input!! heres a pic of the dyno graph!

Re: rev limiter on LS-T???
torqe looks like its holding pretty well. if you have dual valve springs and the engine is still making power then rev it out till power stop climbing. i personally wouldnt go past 8500-8600rpm though and you also need to be running an obd2 oil pump or obd1 vtec oil pump so the rockers dont wear to quickly. also i wouldnt always drive it around reving so high, keep the higher rpms for the track or short bursts and tryint o check valve lash after alot of high rpm pulls. the pivot ***** and cups wear with the higher rpm because there just not designed for it.

With a built bottom end and an upgraded valvetrain, you could safely rev to 8,000rpm i would think. I'm sure you could push it further, but the benefits of doing so may not be worth the additional risk.

Re: rev limiter on LS-T???
8000 rpm would allow you to have a significantly better powerband. 7400 rpm, I'd be afraid of shifting out of the powerband. 8k you should be okay for the most part. Even if power is falling off a bit, you don't want to shift low and have to have the turbo catch up.
What specific parts are you using? That is how I would decide to rev higher. If the parts are not designed for revving past 7500rpm, then 8k would be pushing it. If they are good, high quality parts that the manufacturer says are good for high rpm duty, I'd rev the **** out of the engine and see which rev limiter provides me the best times. I'm guessing an 8500rpm limiter would result in better times than a 8000rpm limiter even though the power probably won't hold until 8500rpm. It's all about shifting into your powerband. Big powerband allows you to be a mediocre driver and get favorable results.

Re: rev limiter on LS-T???
Just because the torque is starting o dip doesnt mean it wont continue to make hp. its when the hp levels off that you want to stop reving. i think the OP would benefit quite a bit if he took it to 8k. and if it doesnt make power past 7800 then dont rev it but if it does then rev it. it will be fine its built. i used to rev my built LS to 8600 without any problems.

Re: rev limiter on LS-T???
Call up Crower and tell them your setup. Ask their professional opinion on how high you can rev the car. Then put it on the dyno and rev it until that point. Then, test at the track what yields the best times. Don't make up random numbers to rev to. Use some sense.
