Default Replacing a turbine wheel

I have the chance to buy a .63 T3 for next to nothing but the turbine wheel is damaged. I've never had a turbo taken apart so I need some advice. Is this something I could do at home or would I have to send it out? Are turbine wheels easy to find for sale anywhere? Thanks.

youll have to send it out for a rebuild. you'd need to have it balanced.

I was worried about that, how much would this type of rebuild cost about? I checked out majestic and they didn't have any prices listed.

Not necessarily. Some turbos are balanced with BOTH the turbine and compressor wheels on the shaft, while others have the wheels balanced independently. SO, if the turbo was balanced independently and you can find a wheel that was also pre-balanced, you could just put it on without a problem (I think).

You can tell which way the turbo was balanced by looking at the compressor wheel nut. If it's ground off, it was balanced with the turbine wheel and will have to be rebalanced if you replace some part.

not something i would do personally. I'd leave rebuilding turbos up to a professional if you have never done it before. they might see something else wrong that you might not notice.
