Default Replace B18A1 Intake Manifold with B18B1?

If you haven't heard, the head is off my ride. I have one B18A1 [in the car] and two B18B1's sitting in my garrage. I've currently been running the B18A1 intake manifold. The last B18B1 I picked up [only a few weeks ago] has the IM on it. Should I throw the IM from the B1 on my A1 head while I've got everything apart? I think I might do this just for ***** and giggles. I've heard it flows better, but I doubt it's going to make too much difference since I'll be running 10psi anyhow.

Well the 10hp difference has to come from somewhere. Better flowing head and manifold are the most logical answers.

My thoughts exactly...no PGMFI badge staring up at you when you pop the hood. What can it hurt? I think I'm going to do it.

92-93 A1's are/were rated the same 140/124 as all B18B's

EDIT: Actually, it makes more sense to ask, what year B18 is in your car DAX?

I pulled the B18A1 swap from a 1991 Integra, but the head is stamped with 89 which makes me think that it's from a 90.

I'll go with the IM from the B1 then.

Yeah, I've got a pile of cams in my attic, but don't know what goes to what any more, so they're pretty much useless. I was thinking of making a lamp or something out of one of them.

Did you ever play the game "pick-up sticks" as a kid? I'd imagine it'd be a little painful with cams

Haha, yeah that game was the ****. The kid I bought the B18B1 from is my friend...he is in the army and going to Iraq. After I got the engine in my dad's truck, he was like, "you know what, anything in that garrage that's a Honda part, help yourself to." I got tons of stuff.

Haha, if I end up going through with it, sure.

When you take the A1 manifold off, take a look at the ports, as they go into the head. Then compare them to the B1 manifold ports. Also, are you using the B1 head? Compare those intake ports also.
I had a B20 using an A1 manifold... then a got a Skunk2 with a new intake gasket from a 94 B18, and the ports on the later car were MUCH larger.
Anyway, just my little ramble on the subject.

I'll be sure to check that out. I am using the A1 head.

Well I decided to stay with the A1 IM for now. The B1 IM I have has no provisions for an FITV.

You sure about that? Huh, wierd. Do you need a FITV?
That is "Fast Idle Thermo Valve", right?

Yeah that's it. On the A1 manifold, the FITV bolts to the actual IM. On the B1 manifold, there are no provisions for the FITV. I'm assuming that it bolts to the actual throttle body in on the B1, but I don't have the throttle body...only the IM.

Ahh, yes. You are correct. Now I remember.
Does the FITV have an electrical connector going to it? If not, could you just remove it? I'm obsessed with oversimplifying everything.

Yeah, no electrical connections. I would do without it, but I'm not sure how it will affect my cold idle.

Yeah but it gets kind of cold here sometimes...and my 550's are kinda rough on cold idle as it is.

Well, my car was steaming out of the exhaust because the POS cardboard IM gasket was letting coolant leak into the #4Cyl runner. I'm going to replace it with a Hondata heatshield gasket and I bit the bullet and decided to throw on the B18B1 IM. I'm not going to be able to run the FITV, and I'm having to source an IACV that will fit, bit it's going on. I also bypassed all the coolant hoses EXCEPT the ones to the IACV. I got some neat little 8mm bolts to replace the snap off screws that hold on the TPS, so that I can adjust it. Hopefully I'll have it all together in a week or so, and THEN hopefully I'll be ready for tuning. *crosses fingers*
