Remanufactured Turbo's Shaftplay (video inside)
So I bought this turbo from a local guy. It's a never used, remanufactured T3. I didn't notice any shaftplay until I got home and inspected it some more. I took a video me moving the shaft so you can see what it looks like. I'm not sure how much is enough... it doesn't appear that the blades are touching the housing at all. I am almost 100% positive that the exhaust blades aren't... the compressor-side is a lil harder to see. Thoughts?

Haha. Despite how 'porno-feeling' this video may be, I could really use some technical advice right now.

See, on the other side of the room, towards the left on the video... Yeah, over there, there's something called a light source, and it would help if you directed this light source at what you were trying to focus on... Maybe that way we could actually see something moving, or we could just pretend and listen to the clicking...

Re: (Alexander)
that looks like way too much shaft play for a new turbo IMO. I could be wrong but thats the most I have ever seen even compared to OLD (10+years) turbos.

Re: (Mario.)
if the wheels dont touch the housings, you might be ok, as the oil in the center section will take up a lot of that play while the turbo is in motion. However, the in/out play is the crucial one. Grab the shaft with the turbo in the same position as the video, and push/pull up and down. If it moves more than a ****-hair, you have problems.

Yea there has never been oil through it. There is, from what I have checked, absolutely no in/out play. I am positive that the exhaust wheel doesn't touch the housing, but the cold side is kinda hard to see however it doesn't look like it does either.

Thanks guys... the more feedback the better. Maybe I am being to cautious here, but I rather be safe than sorry later.

Looks normal. By the way when looking at shaft play on a turbo its more of an in/out instead of side to side. There will be slight side to side play in all turbo's. Granted if its excessive then its no good.
