Boost (obvious to check for boost spikes and to make sure wastegate is working)
Oil Pressure (so you engine never starves for oil and you can detect early oil pump failure)
Water Temp (so you can tell how hot your car is getting and if you need to let it cool, the stock guage is innacurate and the middle position is actually for a range of temps not just a specific one)

You dont need EGT, oil temp, tranny temp or a/f (unless its a wideband),

ouch . Those D17s are really stubborn NA or FI. For what it's worth, i'd save and get a K20a3 or even a k24 motors, I would definitly pick one of those up (i see them cheap complete all the time CHEAP) and build that up and boost that. Even after the turbo setup i'd suspect you'd hit high 14s...I've delt with them before and they are (and it was an auto)

How much psi do you plan on boosting?

Oh and about guages, id run wideband, oil pressure, and boost. But since you say you are on a budget I doubt you would be able to run one so I'd just get oil pressure and boost...no need to waste money on a 3rd guage.

just out of curiosity, how much more would a k20 swap be as opposed to just a tranny swap for my d17

K swap ~ $6000
D17 = a whole lot of headaches.

I'd really talk your rents into selling so you can go with a 5th or 6th gen Civic.

he doesn't have to swap in a a2 or whatever....

You can go with a k20a3 (EP3 motor) or a K24 (TSX) motor, both will have a lot more potential than your d-series for boost (as long as they are built, but they are both sucky on the NA end) You could probably find a 24 and a3 swap for 2-3k including tranny. Way easier to swap a K in the 7th gen.

edit: sell off the d17 for around 600-800 bucks as well.

I think these are kinda cool. They are pretty cheap though. Are they pretty micky mouse or are they alright. http://www.glowshiftdirect.com...ry=24
